414 <br />A letter was received from the City Planning Commission favorably recommending the <br />vacation of that part of Johnson Street located in the City of "South Bend, bounded by <br />the south line of Orange Street, the east line of Johnson 'Street, the north line of <br />Washington Street and the west line of Johnson Street including the area constituting the, <br />former intersection of Johnson Street and Colfax Avenue, all located in the City of <br />South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana, contingent upon the following: <br />1. That the 18-inch trunk sewer in subject street be <br />accommodated by proper and satisfactory building <br />construction or that the sewer be re -located, said <br />cost of the location to be borne solely and entirely <br />by the O'Brien Corporation. <br />2. That the South Shore Railroad warning gates on the south <br />side of Orange Street at Johnson may be removed; the gates <br />on the north side of Orange Street at Johnson to remain; <br />that South Shore warning gates and lights should be in- <br />stalled at the Brookfield -orange intersection. <br />3. That the necessary utility easements be retained on <br />subject street. <br />4. That the OtBrien Corporation through its architects <br />and/or agents shall submit preliminary and final plans <br />for construction or re -construction of any structures <br />contemplated in the existing right-of-way of subject <br />street, for the protection of the sewer therein, to <br />the City Engineer for his approval before any Building <br />Permit is authorized. <br />The Board directed that the Clerk advise the petitioner accordingly. <br />The Board approved the quotation, submitted by W. J. Braunsdorf & Son, in the <br />amount, of $384-00 for replacing 3-inch lines in the attic of the City Hall as the <br />2-inch, branches were rotted out, and funds being available, the Board directed the Clerk' <br />to -proceed with the -necessary repairs. <br />A petition, under date of December 7, 1955, signed by several residents in the <br />area of the 3400 block of South Main Street requesting the elimination of automobile <br />body dump established by J. E. Walz, Inc., from South Main Street to Sherwood Street. <br />This was referred to the Department of Sub -Standard Buildings and Dwellings for in- <br />vestigation and report. <br />The following Excavation Bonds, each in the sum of 1,000.00, was approved by <br />the Board: <br />Mitchel Kahn Plumbing & Heating Co. Emmet Shaul & Son <br />Albert W. Smith Company, Inc. Emil C. Spromberg <br />Victor Trippel Henry DeWulf <br />Walter T. Otterstein <br />The Traffic Engineer's urgent need for fifty 3611 x 36" x 36" Overall Yellow <br />Scotchlite YIELD RIGHT OF WAY signs, with aluminum backs was next taken up by the -Board,'; <br />and funds being available, the Clerk of the Board was authorized to purchase same. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 11:45 A.
