<br />A special meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Thursday, October 13, 1955"
<br />at 10:00 A. M. Mr. J. A. Bickel and Mr. R. S. Andrysiak were present.
<br />The meeting was held for the purpose of awarding contracts for the improvement
<br />of alley between Michigan Street and Main Street, from Madison to Marion Street, by
<br />;construction of Class 110 Type 1, Cement Concrete Pavement and improvement on Eisenhower
<br />Avenue and Crosby Avenue. The Engineers tabulations and recommendations showing bids
<br />of McIntyre & Jones, for both improvements, to be the lowest and best bids, contracts
<br />j;were awarded accordingly, and the Board proceeded with the signing of contracts and
<br />approved Performance and Maintenance Bonds.
<br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.

<br />at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read
<br />and approved. Claims of the following suppliers, in the total amount of $20,300.42,

<br />First appeared before the Board Miss Mary Margaret Stevens, representing George
<br />Wyman & Company, and was granted permission to use a mobile searchlight for
<br />publicity purposes, one evening only; Monday, October 24, 1955 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
<br />Permission was granted, however, with the specific understanding that the equipment
<br />must be on the sidewalk, next to the curb, and notin the street.

<br />escort for a blind -folded "magician" automobile driver, who is to perform a blindfold -
<br />driving act in the area of Ford Street and Scenic -Drive on Saturday, October 29, 1955,
<br />at 9:30 A. M. The stunt is to be performed in a period not exceeding one-half hour.
<br />In view of the fact that the activity is connected with a ten day special effort com-
<br />batting juvenile delinquency, the Board authorized the requested escort and granted its
<br />permission for the performance.
<br />The request of Kathleen Leddy for permission to hold a "Block Party" at the end
<br />of Roosevelt Street, Thursday evening, October 27, 1955, from 6:30 to 10:00 P.M., was
<br />next considered and permissioned granted.
<br />The Board next examined letter received from. the Rieth-Riley Construction Company,
<br />agreeing to accept a tentative award of their bid for the paving of Sample Street,
<br />from Falcon to Kentucky Street, contingent upon funds becoming available, and the work
<br />to be done next spring. The bid is, therefor, tentatively and contingently awarded to
<br />Rieth-Riley Construction Company to be confirmed and formally awarded at such time as
<br />,funds for the improvement become available.
<br />The Board then examined and approved plans for the construction of a canopy for
<br />"the Edward J. White, Inc., new store front at 1011 S. Michigan Street, with the stipu-
<br />lation that this construction complies with the municipal building code.
