<br />The Board first examined and referred to Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, complaint
<br />('concerning the use of Lombardy Drive by an excessive amount of heavy truck traffic, in -
<br />!,eluding -semi -trailers.

<br />STREET DEPARTMENT:
<br />Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present, reported to the Board the
<br />stopping of Street Department trucks, by a citizens barricade of two or more persons on
<br />Corby Boulevard, while engaged in special work in connection with the park -playground
<br />construction activities at the new Edison Bchool site. The Board took the matter under
<br />advisement, and instructed the 'Street Commissioner to avoid the use of this street by
<br />;Street Department trucks until further advised by the Board.
<br />The Board next considered complaint concerning property of Vernon C. Hastings,
<br />located at.114 E. Keasy Street, and the Clerk was directed to notify Mr. Hastings a
<br />period of ten days will be permitted him in which to "clean up" these premises.
<br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2817
<br />This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution here'tof ore adopted by
<br />the Board of Public Works and Safety, for the vacation of the ALLEY BETWEEN MICHIGAN
<br />AND MAIN STREETS from the south line of Dean Street to the north line of Sherwood Street,i.
<br />under'Vacation Resolution No. 2817. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient
<br />proofs of publication and no remonstrators having appeared and no written remonstrances
<br />having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that
<br />the said resolution be finally adopted and the said alley be vacated.
<br />The Engineering Department is directed to prepare an assessment roll covering the
<br />assessment of benefits -and the award of damages to the surrounding properties.
<br />R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the awards
<br />1 of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of ALLEY
<br />BETWEEN MICHIGAN AND MAIN STREETS from the south line of Dean Street to the north line
<br />?of Sherwood Street, under Vacation Resolution No, 2817-
<br />In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in.
<br />the City Hall at 10:00 A. M. C.S.T. on 7th day of November, 1955, for the purpose of
<br />hearing and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said
<br />(vacation, and the Board further orders that notice of said hearing, together with the
<br />[publishing
<br />amount of damages awarded and benefits assessed be addressed to the property owners by
<br />same on the 14th day of October, on the 21st day of October, and on the 28th
<br />jday of October, 1955, in the South Bend Tribune and Tri-County News.
<br />Mr. Victor Terhune representing Rieth-Riley Construction Company, together with
<br />Mr. E. A. Smith of the engineering firm of Chas. W. Cole & Son, being present, the
<br />Board thru Chairman, R. S. Andrysiak, directed the Rieth-Riley Construction Company
<br />proceed with the resurfacing of Kemble Avenue, from Prairie Avenue to Ewing Avenue,
<br />and South Street, from Lafayette Boulevard to Taylor Street; the latter.to include
<br />the widening of the street to the,existing new.curbing installed by the Department of
<br />Public Parks along The Plaza.
<br />Discussion was next given the low bid, submitted by Rieth-Riley Construction Co.,
<br />for the paving of Sample Street, from Kentucky Street to Falcon Street. Due to un-
<br />certainties prevailing, it was deemed advisable to defer this work to next spring.
<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2816 CONFIRMED
<br />For the improvement of FREMONT STREET from the north line of Elwood Avenue to the
<br />south line of Keller Street, under Improvement Resolution No. 2816, 1955, adopted
<br />September 6, 1955, by constructing a Class "C" pavement.
<br />After hearing all persons interested who appeared and being fully advised on the
<br />premises and the Clerk of the Board i having Shown proofs of publication of the notices t6
<br />property owners and the same having been found sufficient, the Board decides that the
<br />benefits to the property liable to be assessed for said improvement are equal to the
<br />estimated cost of the same as reported by the City Civil Engineer, therefore
<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, that Improvement Resolution No. 2816, 1955, duly passed by this Board on --
<br />September 6, 1955, for the above improvement, be and the same is hereby in all things
<br />confirmed and the improvement is hereby ordered -to be made.
