First appeared before the Board the Hon. Walter C. Erler, and verbally petitioned
on behalf of the residents of Woodside, the removal of the bus routing from Woodside to
1another street equally suitable to serve the patrons of the immediate area. The matter
,was referred to Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller for investigation and recommendation.
Chas. Boynton- Attorney for Romy and Dorothy Hammes, then appeared before the
Board and entered into negotiations with the City of South Bend, relative to the
ae)quisitiwo of additional right of wag on the east side of Olive Street, from Western
.Avenue to Washington Street. All terms of agreement apparently met with the favor of
both groups of the negotiators, and the transfer of property will be effected soon,
after a mortgage release is obtained from the former owner, the Singer Manufacturing
;Company. The City is now endeavoring to obtain an additional twelve feet for right of
way, however, should this prove impossible, ten feet will be acceptable.
Next appeared before the Board, Attorney Roger F. Gag, together with three residents;
of Wall Street, in the immediate vicinity of the John Adams High School, complaining
;that the excessive parking of high school students' cars is blocking driveways and pre- j
venting residents from entering or leaving their premises. Mrs. Karn stated that cars
;have been driven over lawns, causing property damage, and stressed the fact that the
'situation is not only one of serious inconvenience, but presents a definite safety
'hazard.
Considerable further discussion followed, and it was pointed out that ample parking
'facilities are available on Mishawaka Avenue. Complaint was also registered concerning
"drag racing" and other dangerous practices engaged in by John Adams High School students;
The Board assured the petitioners early action woiu.d be taken in the matter, follow
ing a,study of the situation b the Traffic Engineer, and the g g , presentation to the Board
of the Traffic Engineerts recommendations.
The Board next examined remonstrances filed in opposition to the Bereliff Estates
Addition sewers. These were referred to the City Engineer, to be checked for the
purpose of determining the actual number of signatures qualifying as bona fide property
owners.
