South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting –December 18, 2009

6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)

A. South Bend Central Development Area

(2) continued…

Memorial Hospital. The city has a
development agreement with Memorial
Hospital dating from 2002. It anticipated the
hospital’s expansion plans and the
improvements that would take place around
those components. The existing
development agreement calls for elimination
of the “S-curve” from Michigan to Marion
Street at Madison. As with all plans, there
have been some adjustments. Memorial no
longer wants to eliminate the S-curve. The
city is taking a new look at what
improvements would be most appropriate
around the expansion that is taking place.
We have a proposal from DLZ for $10,000 to
give us an estimate of probable construction
costs. Under the Agency Agreement, the
Board of Works would contract with DLZ on
our behalf. The list of improvements under
consideration was provided in the
Commissioners’ packets.

Mr. Varner asked if these improvements
would all be at the city’s expense. Mr. Inks
responded that they would be. They would
be prioritized and brought before the
Commission in a revised development
agreement.

CRN.2638
Upon a motion by Ms. King, seconded by
OMMISSION APPROVED ESOLUTION O
APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION
Mr. Downes and unanimously carried, the
AMA
OF AN DDENDUM TO THE ASTER GENCY
Commission approved Resolution No. 2638
A(DLZ-OP
GREEMENT PINION OF ROBABLE
approving and authorizing the execution of
CCM
ONSTRUCTION OSTS FOR EMORIAL
an Addendum to the Master Agency
HI)
OSPITAL MPROVEMENTS
Agreement (DLZ - Opinion of Probable
Construction Costs for Memorial Hospital
Improvements)
5
