3/0 <br />The Board then read and ordered filed letter of the Bendix Aviation Corporation, <br />;dated August 19, 1955, relative to their continued effort to solve the noise problem <br />'involved .in connection with their test stands, and the Clerk was directed to acknowledge'. <br />;1 <br />!its receipt. <br />i <br />The Board next read the report of Asst. Supt. Stanley C. Gourd, pertaining to <br />;catalpa tree in alley east of Laporte Avenue, running south from Colfax Avenue to <br />'intersecting east -west alley. It was the consensus of opinion, the Board should and <br />;would be guided by this report in this matter. <br />The Board next considered a. complaint relative to sidewalk being littered with <br />!loose gravel, bordering the parking lot at the corner of Madison and Michigan Street. <br />The Board_ directed the Clerk to notify the parking lot management to correct this hazard-' <br />ous and unsightly condition. <br />STREE T DEPARTMENT: <br />Then appeared before the Board Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, and presented <br />the problem of the disposal of trees and heavy tree limbs, which are being delivered to <br />the Sanitary Landfill in increasing amount after every windstorm. It was the decision j <br />of the Board that the burning of this material is the only solution to this problem, <br />and after the burning of the current accumulation at the Sanitary Landfill, all future <br />collection of such material is to be taken to the Park Department's Gertrude Street <br />;dump and burned under Fire Department supervision, and that the Board will proceed i <br />immediately to establish such arrangement with the Department of Public Parks. <br />The Commissioner then inquired as to whether or not a sewer could cross Ironwood <br />Drive.in the Edison Park Addition, and was advised such sewer construction would be <br />prohibited. <br />The Hon. Walter C. Erler, being present, brought to the attention of the Board <br />an intolerable condition existinm in the southtiTrest section of the City due to the con- <br />tinuous burning of tires and oil -saturated rubbish in the junk yard at 11�20 South <br />Walnut. {> <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEER: <br />The Board approved the installation of a STOP sign on southeast corner of Dundee <br />Street at Washington Street. <br />Maintenance Bond, in the sum of $1680.00, for McIntyre & Jones, for approximately <br />1300 feet of pavement on Iowa Street from Elwood Avenue to Keller Street, was examined <br />and approved by the Board. <br />Excavation Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, for Niezgodski & Sons Plumbing Co., <br />and Taylor Construction Company were examined and approved. <br />Contractor's Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved for <br />the following: <br />Vernon C. Bice Crof oot Brothers <br />Lloyd L. Barrett Colpaert Realty Corporation <br />Arthur R. Jensen L. W. Rimer <br />Walter M. Szymkowiak Taylor Construction Co. <br />A letter, dated August 21, 1955, from Mr. Otto Bird, 533 East Angella Boulevard, <br />'requesting speed caution signs to slow traffic at this point, because of accidents <br />:having occurred here on several occasions from excessive speed, was referred to Traffic <br />,Engineer, E. H. Miller, for investigation and report. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 11:35 A.
