Minutes of.the previous regular meeting and <br />also special meeting were read and approved. Salary claims, in the total amount of <br />$35,325.05, were approved. A. Smith architect for Chas. W. Cole & Son, <br />a <br />and discussion ensued relative to anticipated progress with the Eddy Street widening <br />program. <br />Then appeared before the Board Attorney John W. Montgomery, in the matter of the <br />I <br />rehabilitating of the residence at 724 W. Monroe Street. City Engineer, R. S. Andrysiak, <br />;'being <br />present, reported on the findings of personal inspection of the premises made by <br />i <br />himself and Mr. I. A. Hurwich. Mr. Andrysiak stated that while the Board would concur <br />1with <br />recommendations and findings of the Building Commissioner as to the deteriorated <br />Ieondition <br />of the specific house in question, in view of the fact that houses on the <br />iadjoining <br />lots on each side of this property, and the houses on the opposite side of <br />,the <br />street being in very good condition, together with the concensus of opinion of the <br />,Board <br />being that an expenditure of1;000.00 would restore this house to a satisfactory <br />structural condition, the Board accordingly directed the Building Commissioner to issue <br />;;the <br />required building permit for this rehabilitation work to proceed; it being speci- <br />ficially agreed by Attorney Montgomery, as the representative of the Mary Kowalik Trust <br />• <br />1 <br />that - <br />1. This house will be repaired to such standards as will meet with the <br />Building Commissioner's approval. <br />2. The concrete block building on the premises shall not be used as <br />living quarters. <br />3. The rear part of the house, in the nature of a storm porch, shall be <br />torn down. <br />4.. And specifically the kitchen floor, showing evidence of rotted joists <br />. <br />beneath, is to be repaired to meet with the Building Commissionerts <br />approval. <br />• <br />The Board next read the request of WSBT Radio & Television, dated August 5, 1955, <br />over the signature of Scott N. Hagenau, for permission to suspend at a height of twenty- <br />five feet a three-quarter inch coaxial cable across North LaFayette Boulevard,near <br />the Leeper Park concession stand, on Friday,August 12th, for the purpose of telecasting <br />the tennis tournament to be held Saturday and Sunday, August 13th and 14th. The Board <br />granted approval and directed the Clerk to so advise PrR_r. Hagenau. <br />The Board next examined and signed contract between Rieth-Riley Construction <br />Company, Inc., and the City of South Bend, for the construction of an asphaltic concrete <br />resurface for Portage Avenue,. from Keller Street to Lathrop Street, in accordance with <br />their bid in the total sum of $44,130.00. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2812 - 1955 <br />This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore -adopted by <br />,,the Board of Public Works and Safety for the vacation of the ALLEY BETWEEN NORTH ST. <br />.LOUIS BOULEVARD AND NORTH ST. PETER STREET running north from the north line of St. <br />.Vincent Street to the south line of the alley north of St. Vincent Street and from the <br />':north line of the alley north of St. Vincent Street to the south line of Napoleon Street, <br />;'under Vacation Resolution No. 2812. <br />The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publication and no remon- <br />strators having appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk <br />it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finally <br />adopted and the said alley be vacated. <br />
