<br />First appeared before the Board Mr. George Fisher, Manager of Hawthorne Mellody
<br />Farms, asking permission to drive a wagon with a six -horse hitch on the downtown streets
<br />;;and throughout the city on Friday and Saturday, June 24th and 25th, for the purpose of
<br />Ilan exhibit introducing to the public their line of dairy products. Mr. Fisher, having
<br />!:satisfied the Board of the exhibition being fully covered by public liability and property;
<br />;'damage insurance, the Board granted permission accordingly.
<br />The Board, next considered the request of the Jaycees for permission, to conduct
<br />'their annual Soap Box Derby on the west hill of Chippewa Avenue, on an all day basis,
<br />;Sunday, July 17, 1955; and their further request that this location be barricaded against
<br />;':traffic from 10:00 A. M. to 1:00 P. M. Saturday, July 9th, for the Soap Box Derby test
<br />;;runs. This project being, in the opinion of the Board, a most worthy one, permission
<br />Imas granted accordingly.
<br />A letter under date of June 15, 1955 from Philip Welber, President, Robertsonts,
<br />;requesting permission to stage a Christmas Parade through the downtown area on the _
<br />;;morning of Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24, 1955, was next given consideration
<br />.by the Board.
<br />There being no previcas commitments for this date, and Mr. Welberts letter con-
<br />taining agreement to indemnify the City in the event of property damage or injury arising
<br />from such parade, the Board, thereupon, granted approval.
<br />PLANS REPORTED
<br />Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates, Civil Engineers, reported to the Board, Profiles,
<br />Drawings, Plans, General Details, Specifications, Estimates and Preliminary Improvement
<br />Resolution for the improvement of 35th Street from Jefferson Boulevard North to as far
<br />as possible, by constructing a local sewer.
<br />The Board approved the report and passed Improvement Resolution No. 2810, authoriz-
<br />ing this improvement, and the 6th day of July, 1955, at the hour of 6.30 otclock F.M.
<br />CST. is hereby fixed as the time, and the office of the Board in said City as the place,
<br />when and where all persons whose property may be affected by such proposed improvement,
<br />may be heard as to the necessity for the same, and all petitions and remonstrances
<br />received and the Board will, on said day, decide whether the benefits accruing to
<br />abutting and adjacent property, and to the City of South Bend, Indiana, will be equal
<br />to or exceed the estimated cost of said improvement. The Clerk of the Board is hereby
<br />ordered to give notice by two weekly publications, of the time and the place of hearing
<br />of this resolution No. 2810, adopted this 20th day of June, 1955 and to be published

<br />Then appeared before the Board Mr. Loren Weyand, being Project Engineer for Arcole-
<br />Midwest Corporation, a subcontractor for paving in connection with the Indiana Toll Road
<br />requesting permission for the erecting of batch plants on the west edge of Riverside
<br />Drive, and the exclusive use of the west lane of Riverside Drive, from Cleveland Road
<br />to Darden Bridge, until approximately November 15, 1955. Their need for such accommo-
<br />dations, having been previously discussed with the City Engineer and found to be in the
<br />publicts interest both from the standpoint of reduction of traffic congestion and from
<br />the standpoint of safety, the Board granted permission under the following conditions:
