Architect Young also presented photographic evidence showing the <br />building now under construction immediately north of and adjoining the Sherland Building <br />as projecting more than two inches beyond the east line of Michigan Street, as estab- <br />lished by Engineers W. S. Moore and Chas. W. Cole. Building Commissioner, Verner L. <br />Lane, being present, considerable discussion ensued centering upon the use of the one <br />remaining steel girder from the former building, and its use in arriving at measurements <br />to determine east line of Michigan Street. The Building Commissioner presented drawing <br />furnished by Chas. W. Cole & Son, Civil Engineers, showing the building under construc- <br />tion at 128 South Michigan Street as encroaching less than one inch beyond the east line <br />of Michigan Street and indicating the Sherland Building to be east of the east line of <br />Michigan Street a distance approximating the "surplus" determined by the survey lines <br />established for Michigan Street and St. Joseph Street. The matter was taken under <br />advisement by the Board. <br />The Board next considered the request of Mrs. Leona Kuhn, President of the Spanis <br />American War Auxiliary, changing the dates of June loth and llth to the dates of Septem- <br />ber 16th and 17th for the conducting of their annual memorial flower sale. Finding no <br />conflicting commitment, the Board approved the change in dates and notified Mrs. Kuhn <br />accordingly. <br />Then appeared before the Board Mr. E. A. Smith, representing Chas. W. Cole & Son, <br />Engineers, and Architects, submitting plans and specifications under Contract No. 1 <br />for street improvements, covering a portion of Eddy Street, and Sample Street, from the <br />east rail of the east track of the New York Central Railroad near Olive Street, to the <br />east curb line of Grant Street. The Board examined plans and specifications, granted <br />approval and directed the Clerk to proceed with the required legal advertising for bids, <br />setting the time for the opening of bids as 10:00 otclock CST., Monday, May 23, 1955. <br />The Board next examined the specifications for the air-conditioning of the Mayort <br />office, and -directed the Clerk to proceed to obtain quotations from six or more dealers,. <br />for the furnishing of the needed equipment. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: <br />Street Commissioner, H. Al. Tomlinson, being present, the Board took up the urgent <br />matter of a manhole to be placed at the dead-end of Ottawa Court. Ample funds being <br />available, the Board approved and ordered the construction of this manhole. <br />The Board next examined petition for permit from the Indiana & Michigan Electric <br />Company, under date of April 25, 1955, to construct two new transformer vaults and <br />reconstruct roof of transformer vault at locations indicated on their drawing D-1-5337, <br />accompanying letter of petition. The Board granted permission for the construction and <br />directed the Clerk to so notify the Indiana & Michigan Electric Companyts division <br />Superintendent, A. J. Diedrich, accordingly. <br />The request of Sollitt Construction Co., Inc., for the sub -contracting, under <br />!;Contract No. 11, of the macadam base and bituminous surfaced paving to Seneca Petroleum !' <br />IiCo., Inc., having been recommended by Consoer, Townsend & Associates, was approved by <br />the Board: <br />Contractors Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved by { <br />the Board for the following contractors: <br />Benjamin Brothers Verlin V.
