<br />The Board next considered Contract Supplements Nos. 10, 11 and 12, Contract No.
<br />11-52-137, Sollitt Construction Company, Inc., Contractor. These supplements, having
<br />been recommended by Consoer Townsend and Associates, Consulting Engineers, were
<br />thereupon, signed in acceptance by the Board. j

<br />The agreement to be entered into between the City of South Bend and Russell
<br />Oberlin, in the matter of appraisals and acquiring grants of right-of-way of property
<br />along the East side of Eddy Street from Jefferson Boulevard to South Bend Avenue, was
<br />carefully examined and approved by the Board.
<br />-Then appeared before the Board, Attorneys Walter Clements and Walter G. Shorts,
<br />and their client, Robert A. Brooks, operator of -newsstand at the southwest corner of
<br />Michigan and Washington Streets, and protested the removal of this newsstand, on or
<br />before June 1, 1955, as ordered by the Board. The attorneys presented a petition bearing;
<br />s6veral hundred signatures of citizens purportedly protesting the removal of the news -
<br />,stand. Considerable discussion ensued. Strenuous objection was made by the Board to
<br />both the location and the size of the stand. Being unable to reach any agreement, the
<br />'matter was deferred to be taken up in regular meeting, Monday, May 16, 1955-
<br />Then appeared before the Board Sgt- Gordon Gollnow of the U. S.-Army Recruiting
<br />Service, asking permission to park an Army Display Bus in front of restaurant opposite
<br />Federal Building on West Jefferson,, Saturday and Sunday, May 23rd and 24th'.
<br />The sergeant having obtained permission from the management of the restaurant, and;
<br />assuring the Board no P.A. system will be used in connection with the exhibit, the Board
<br />proceeded to grant the request, and directed the Clerk to notify the departments con-
<br />cerned.
<br />D E D I C A T I O N
<br />WHEREAS, a plat with dedication of street and utility easements indicated
<br />'thereon is now presented to the Board, to be known as SWANSON PARK 6TH ADDITION, an
<br />;addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana.
<br />This plat and dedication is filed in the records of the Board of Public Works
<br />'and Safety, and recorded in Book No. Page No. in the office of the St. Joseph
<br />'County Recorder.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the
<br />!City of South Bend, Indiana, that all public streets and public places dedicated to the
<br />;public use in said plat are hereby accepted and approved by said Board for and on behalf
<br />of the City of South Bend, Indiana.
<br />Swanson Park Sixth Addition to the City of South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana
<br />;is a sub -division of Part of Lot Fifty -Five (55) in the recorded plat of Jefferson
<br />!Heights Addition to said City and also a tract of land Thirty-five and four -tenths , (35-Z4-)
<br />feet wide East and West and adjacent to the entire easterly side of said lot Fifty-five
<br />�(55) in said Jefferson Heights Addition and being more particularly described in copy
<br />on file in the office of the Board of Public Works & Safety.
<br />IN WITNESS WHEREOF, C. Harry Swanson, Inc., being the owner of the fore -going
<br />'described real estate, has caused this dedication to be signed by its President, its

<br />The Board again reviewed the letter of Wm. Fuerbringer, bearing date of April 11,
<br />'1955, and directed the Clerk to refer this matter to Supt. of Parks, Ralph A. Newman,
<br />.for action or recommendations in settlement of the problem presented.
<br />The request of the Spanish American War Auxiliary for permit to sell memorial
<br />;carnations at factory gates and upon the downtown streets was approved by the Board
<br />!for the dates of Friday and Saturday, June loth and llth, 1955•
<br />Captain Clement Hazinski then appeared and presented to the Board the request of
<br />the South Bend Junior Association of Commerce for permission to barricade and use
<br />'North Lafayette Boulevard, from Bartlett Street to Park Lane on Saturday May 7, 1955, to
<br />'conduct their 14.th annual teen-agers "Roadeo". Request was granted.
<br />An Excavation Bond, -in the sum of $5,000.00, for Hartman Builders, Inc., was
<br />.examined and approved by the Board, and also Excavation Bond for $1,000.00 for William
<br />S. Lodyga.
<br />Contractor's Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved
