<br />First appeared before the Board, Councilman W. A. Hahn in regard to inconvenience
<br />and disregard for traffic sign caused by the placing of sign indicating NO LEFT TURN
<br />at Lincoln Way East and Sample Street. The councilman was assured that the repair
<br />underway at this intersection will proceed at an early date, April 5th being indicated.
<br />STREET DEPARTMENT:
<br />H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, recommended to the Board the
<br />acceptance of the bid of Teeter Sales & Service, Inc. The Board reviewed the bids and
<br />signed the contract for the G. M. C. truck accordingly, directing the Clerk to proceed
<br />to issue the required purchase order.
<br />The Commissioner then called attention to the Street Department's need for two
<br />tractor and cutter units combined. Funds having been appropriated to meet this need,
<br />the Board authorized the Clerk to proceed with the required advertising.
<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2801 - AWARDING CONTRACT
<br />:.Engineer's report, submitted by Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates, having been received.;
<br />and examined by the Board, in the matter of bids for the improvement of JEFFERSON BOULE=
<br />VARD - 34th STREET WASHINGTON STREET - 35th STREET FROM APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET EAST
<br />OF 26th STREET TO LOGAN ON JEFFERSON BOULEVARD: FROM JEFFERSON BOULEVARD TO WASHINGTON
<br />::STREET ON 34th STREET: FROM 34th STREET TO 35th STREET ON WASHINGTON STREET AND FROM
<br />WASHINGTON STREET TO OAKCREST DRIVE ON 35th STREET by constructing a trunk sewer exten-
<br />sion in accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2801, passed by the Board of Public
<br />Works and Safety on January 24, 1955, and confirmed by said Board on February 21, 1955.
<br />the bid was awarded to Niles Excavating Company as they submitted the lowest and best
<br />bid.
<br />The Board next examined and approved Contract Supplement No. 9, Contract No. 11,
<br />Sollitt Construction Company, Contractor.
<br />The Board examined and ordered referred to the City Engineer an inquiry received
<br />from Attorney Robert K. Rodibaugh, under date of March 25th, concerning city -owned
<br />real estate described as a triangular shaped piece of land on west side of Michigan
<br />Street, lying between Samuel Leeper's 2nd Addition and the Michigan Central Railroad
<br />tracks.
<br />Eugene Ham, failing to appear before the Board in compliance with the Board's re-
<br />quest, made contact through the City Attorney, and informed the Board his firm will
<br />comply with the.City Ordinance and their premises will, within thirty days, be in
<br />accord with the ordinance governing the operation and maintaining of junk yards and
<br />scrap piles within the city limits.
<br />The Board next examined and approved plans for sewer improvement on Chimes Boulevard
<br />from MacArthur Avenue to Edison Road, as submitted by Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates,
<br />bearing date of March 11, 1955•
<br />The Board then examined and approved the following dedication:
<br />WHEREAS, a plat with dedication of streets and alleys indicated thereon
<br />is now presented to the Board, to be known as SWANSON PARK 6TH ADDITION,
<br />an addition to the city of South Bend, Indiana.
<br />This plat and dedication is filed in the records of the Board of Public
<br />Works and Safety and recorded in Book No. , Page No. , in the Recorder's
<br />Office of St. Joseph County.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Public Works and Safety
<br />of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that all public streets and alleys
<br />and public easements dedicated to the public use in said plat are hereby,
<br />accepted and approved by said Board for and on behalf of the City of
<br />South Bend, Indiana.
