Jv� <br />The Board first considered numerous complaints concerning the condition of LaSalle <br />Avenue at street intersections, due to the worn-out status of the South Shore -Railway <br />crossings at the intersecting streets, particularly Main, LaFayette - anal William. The <br />Board directed the Clerk to notify the'M. of W. Department of the South Shore to give <br />;these specific crossings, their immediate attention. <br />Councilman Walter Glass appeared before the,"Board in the matter of a petition filed <br />August 13, 1954 by Jack L. Krieg and several oth.e"r i e&sidents of ' the ' 1200 block of <br />South 26th Street. Petition was obatined from the Boardts files, reviewed by the Board <br />and ordered refiled. <br />The Board next re-examined a letter from Sollitt Construction Co:, Inc., bearing <br />date of January 28, 1955, on the subject of Colorless Waterproofing, together with <br />recommendation of Consoer, Townsend & Associates, consulting engineers, in this matter; <br />and proceeded to approve the Kedmont Waterproofing Co., 53 West -Jackson Blvd., Chicago, <br />as sub -contractors for the colorless waterproofing to be incorporated in the constructio <br />of the Sewage Treatment Plant. <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: <br />. The Traffic Engineer t s Department f s need for four traffic signal controllers of a <br />specified type was next considered by the Board, and the Clerk was directed to proceed <br />with the purchase of the required equipment. <br />The Board next considered letters and drawings, submitted by the South Bend.Parking <br />Company, inc., regarding proposed cut-off corner at the intersection of Center Street <br />and St. Joseph Street and legal <br />p , a g question arising in the ensuing discussion, the <br />Board deferred taking action in the matter, pending the return of City Attorney, I. A. <br />Hurwich, for consultation in the matter. <br />The Board next reviewed the letter of Ralph A. Newman, Supt. of the Department of <br />;Public Parks, dated February 16, 1955, and in view of the fact that it is deemed adwisab <br />:to dispose of the property in question, the Board directed the Clerk to notify Supt. <br />!Newman by letter to proceed in this matter by resolution on the part of the Park Board <br />;and the required public hearings, requesting the sale of this land through the Board of <br />Public Works and Safety. <br />The Board next examined '-layout..and` 'approved occupancy of sidewalk and the indicated <br />1�temporary walks on LaFayette and Jefferson Boulevards, in connection with the constru.ctioa <br />jof the new WSBT Radio and Television building. Layout was accompanied by -the required <br />'certificate of insurance for the Sollitt Construction Co., Inc., contractors. <br />Petition, dated February 21,.1955, for the construction of anew sewer on 35th Street,,; <br />;;from Jefferson Blvd., to termination of 35th Street, was examined and referred to the <br />;City Engineer for investigation and report. <br />Petition, dated February 21, 1955, for construction of a new sewer on 36th Street, <br />from Jefferson Blvd., to Lot 68 on. 36th Street, was examined and referred to the City <br />;;Engineer for investigation and report. <br />The Board next examined Agreement, submitted by German Township, for providing <br />;;Fire Department service to that township for the year of 1955, and deemed it advisable <br />to defer action, pending the examination and recommendation of the City Attorney in <br />! this matter. <br />A hearing having been set for 9:00 A. M. C.S.T. before the Board in the matter of <br />the issuance of a Taxicab Driverts License to Robert W. Leazenby, and no one having <br />,appeared in the matter, the Board sustained its previous denial of such license. <br />The Board approved the installation of the following S-T-O-P Signs - <br />Both sides of Carroll Street at Irvington Avenue <br />Both sides of Milton Street at Carroll Street <br />Both sides of Donald Street at Catalpa Street <br />Both sides of Donald Street at Kemble Avenue <br />Southeast corner of Frederickson and Eclipse Street <br />and Eclipse Street.
