The Board first considered the matter of application for taxicab driver's license
scheduled for hearing at this time. Mr. Robert J. Green, applicant, being present,
correction of statement made in application was acknowledged by him and explained to the
satisfaction of the Board. Application was thereupon approved.
Letter, dated January 21, 1955, over the signature of Superintendent Ralph Newman,
concerning an inquiry in reference to purchasing a portion of Brownfield park, was read
and referred to the City Controller for further action.
Letter, dated February 6, 1955, signed by Jack Beckman, was read by the Board and
ordered filed.
The application for taxicab driver's license of Francis Vandivier, referred to the
Board by the City Controller, was examined and a hearing set in the matter for 9:00 A. M.'
CST., Monday February 14- The Clerk was directed to notify all concerned.
;!STREET DEPARTMENT:
H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, brought to the Boardts atten-
!tion an intolerable situation caused by dogs running in packs in various parts -of the
",City. Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, was present and advised against any wholesale
shooting of dogs, and suggested the filing of charges against the dog owners, recovering
"dogs from the pound for violation of the ordinance against allowing dogs to roam at
(large. Considerable discussion was given the matter and the Police Chiefts suggestion
!;deemed the best procedure. Commissioner Tomlinson stated that he and Poundmaster
Harrison will proceed to obtain necessary information for the issuance of affidavits
;;against violators.
The Board next considered the report of the City Planning Commission of this date,
irelative to petition dated December 1, 1954, to vacate LaFayette Street, from Farneman
'!Street to alley south of Sherwood Street, which called attention to lack of clarity and
'exactness in the description set forth in the petition. The Clerk was directed to
return the petition to Attorney Wilford Walz, representing the petitioners, with the
request that the description be revised to bring it in exact accord with the drawing
:indicating the five separate sections of LaFayette Street desired to be vacated. Upon
return of the corrected petition, the Board will proceed in the matter, inasmuch as
the vacation has been favorably recommended by the City Planning Commission.
The Board then examined drawing of survey of tract of land at the rear of Fire
Station No. 5, and the letter of Robert L. Huff, Director -Secretary of the City Planning
iiCommission, this date, concerning this tract. The Clerk was directed to bring the
matter of an offer having been received through Attorney M. E. Doran for area indicated,
to Superintendent Ralph Newman of the Department'of Public Parks, and Fire Chief, R. J.
Duck, for their consideration and advice.
