X 269 <br />The matter of complaint concerning operation of newstand in the 100 block West <br />,'Jefferson Boulevard and requesting its removal, was considered and it was the consensus <br />of opinion that this matter should be deferred for consideration at the regular meeting <br />of the Board, Monday, January 3, 1955• <br />A letter was received from the City Planning Commission recommending the vacation <br />of alley between lots No. 232 and 233, Sunnymede First Addition and this was referred <br />to the Engineering Department for further investigation. <br />The Board next examined a petition, dated December 1, 195�, to vacate and close <br />'I'Lafayette Street from the north line of Farneman Street to the north line of the first <br />iialley south of Sherwood Street in the City of South Bend, Indiana and this matter was <br />..referred to the City Planning Commission for recommendation. <br />'„TRAFFIC ENGINEER t S DEPARTMENT: <br />The Board next considered the need of the Traffic Engineerts Department for six <br />'traffic signal heads and approved same and the Clerk directed to proceed with the pur- <br />:;chase of this equipment. <br />The Board next examined quotations to supply the Traffic Department with 10001 <br />. !,of 211 galvanized conduit. The South Bend Electric Company having made the best offer, <br />'the Clerk was directed to purchase the conduit from this firm. <br />The Traffic Engineerts Department need for 100 24-inch Stop Sign faces (Scotchlite) <br />liwas brought to the attention of the Board and the purchase of this material was ordered <br />by the Board. <br />The requisition of E. H. Miller, Traffic Engineer, to provide his department with <br />'twenty 8-foot Ornamental Base Traffic Signal Posts was approved by the Board and the <br />jClerk was directed to proceed with the purchase of this equipment. <br />The following S-T-O-P sign installations were approved by the Board - <br />• Stop Signs installed on both sides of Vassar Avenue at Brookfield St. <br />Stop Sign installed on southeast corner of Brookfield St. at Indiana Ave. <br />Stop Signs installed on both sides of Ironwood Drive at Pleasant, <br />making a four way stop <br />Stop Sign installed on northwest corner of 33rd Street at Pleasant St. <br />and a YIELD RIGHT OF WAY Sign on southeast corner of this intersection. <br />Excavation Bonds, each in the sum of1,000.00, were examined and approved for <br />'the following: <br />Welcome G. and Henry G. Hawblitzel <br />• Blitchel Kahn Plumbing & Heating Co. <br />Arthur C. Rogers <br />Emmet Shaul <br />Albert W. Smith Company, Inc. <br />Emil C. Spromberg <br />Howard H. White & Son. <br />Gontractorts Bonds, each in the sum of �,p1,000.00, were examined and approved by <br />the Board, for Charles Hindman Emmons, and The Singer TMfg.
