Hahn and Mr. William Morris,
with a complaint concerning the indicated routing of rubbish haulers to the new landfill.
The information appearing in the press had been to the effect that Corby Boulevard was
. the entrance to the landfill. It was pointed out to Mr. Morris that probably more of
this hauling would go over Howard Street than Corby, and that in any event the streets
would be maintained throughout the period of the use of this landfill to reduce dust
condition to a minimum and keep the surface free from ruts. Further discussion con-
cerned zoning, traffic hazards, and other features involved; agreement being reached
to take note of operations and traffic to and from the landfill for a period of two
months, at which time any unsatisfactory conditions and complaints will be considered,
and remedies applied.
PARKING METER:
Casimir Dzikowski, Superintendent of the Parking Meter Department, being present,
. brought to the attention of the Board a considerable quantity of junk meter heads on
hand and of no further use to the department and requesting disposition. Two salvage
firms having submitted offers for this metal, and in view of its being of no further
value to the City, the Board directed the Superintendent to dispose of it to the highest`
bidder.
STREET DEPARTMENT:
Street Commissioner, H. I,,2. Tomlinson, being present, informed the Board of the
commencing of operations at the new landfill, and discussed with the Board the matter
of the moving of the Armco equipment storage building from the site on Douglas Road to
the site of the new landfill. The Board considered the proposed cost and finding it;to
. be reasonable, approved the dismantling and re -erection of this building, directing
'the.Commissioner to proceed accordingly.
The Board next examined blueprints and data submitted by the City Civil Engineer
relative to the City -owned property at the edge of the St. Joseph River, immediately
below the west end of the Colfax Avenue Bridge, in connection with the leasing of
this area for parking purposes. The entire matter, including blueprints and correspon-
dence was placed in the hands of City Attorney, I. A. Hurwich, for study and advice.
An agreement was entered into between Charles Grundy and the City of South Bend
;;providing license and permission to drive across the property of said Charles Grundy to
;:reach the new landfill area.
Agreement was signed by the Board and a copy ordered filed.
