<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, October 11, 1954,
<br />at 10:00 A.M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read
<br />and approved. Claims of the following suppliers, in the amount of $426,748.17, were

<br />The Board was first presented with a drawing and request for approval of an
<br />awning type entrance canopy to be installed by the Shrine Club, 107 Lincoln Way East.
<br />Approval was granted.
<br />The Board next examined and approved store front plans involving a canopy extending
<br />out over public property not to exceed one foot, for the -Henry Eckler Lumber and Manu-
<br />facturing Company, 1406 Franklin Street.
<br />STREET DEPARTMENT
<br />H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, described to the Board the
<br />night -long activities of his department in the vicinity of Clyde Street and_ Twyckenham
<br />Drive, throughout the preceding night, due to the flooding of the area by Bowman Creek
<br />caused by the collection of debris clogging the stream at overflow capacity in that
<br />section of the City.
<br />The Street Commissioner also brought to the Board's attention damage done to the
<br />Street in the 1500 block, North Huey by the trench digging operations of the Water Works.'
<br />The Commissioner was assured by the Board the matter would be taken up at the ensuing
<br />meeting of the Board of Water Commissioners and payment for oil required to restore the
<br />street to its previous status would be requested from the City Water Works.
<br />RESOLUTION ADOPTING FINAL ASSESSMENT ROLL

<br />After hearing all persons interested who appeared and the Clerk of the Board of
<br />Public Works and Safety having proofs of publication of the notices to property owners
<br />and the same having been found sufficient., therefore
<br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
<br />j Indiana, that the Primary or Preliminary Assessment Roll adopted by the Board on the
<br />27th day of September, 1954, for the improvement of GERTRUDE STREET by constructing a
<br />I local sewer be and the same is in all things confirmed.

<br />A petition, bearing the da of April 26, 1954, to vacate first alley south of
<br />Broadway, running east and west between Franklin and LaFayette streets, was examined
<br />and referred to the City Planning Commission.
