<br />H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, again appeared before the Board and the matter
<br />of the payment of overtime to "part time" employees was given discussion, citing particu-
<br />larly a current instance. It was the decision of the Board that henceforth no "part time!'
<br />• employees are to be called upon to work overtime, but in the particular instance cited,
<br />overtime will be paid the employee involved, in accord with the recommendation of the
<br />Street Commissioner.
<br />A petition, bearing date of August 23, 1954, and carrying four signatures, one of
<br />which was that of John F. Vurpillat, having been returned to the Board by the City Plan
<br />Commission because of indefinite description of property the petitioners desire to be
<br />vacated; was again examined by the Board, and the Clerk was directed to return the
<br />petition to ffr. Vurpillat accordingly.
<br />A petition dated .'august 30, 1951L, signed by twenty-two residents of Goodland Avenue
<br />and the 2900 block of Elwood Avenue, protesting a dust problem, accident hazard and other
<br />• unsatisfactory conditions in connection with the operations of The South Bend Sand and
<br />Gravel Company, was examined and action held in abeyance, pending investigation of the
<br />reported condition.
<br />It was brought to the attention of the Board through reliable sources that some
<br />"listening -in" has been indulged in by switchboard operators. The Clerk was directed
<br />!:to notify the Chief Telephone Operator, who in turn is to notify relief operators that
<br />'!this practice will not be tolerated.
