228 <br />P IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2789 - AWARDING CONTRACT ,I <br />Engineerts Report, submitted by Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates, having been re- <br />ceived and examined by the Board, in the matter of bids for the improvement of SOUTH li <br />BROOKFIELD STREET from the south line of Indiana_Avenue to the north line of Prairie <br />Avenue by constructing a Class C - Pavement in accordance with Improvement Resolution <br />No. 2789, 1954 passed by the Board of Public Works and Safety on July 6, 1954 and <br />confirmed by the said Board on August 9, 1954, the bid was awarded to the Rieth-Riley <br />Construction Company for the sum of j 28, 874.00'. <br />The Board next examined and approved Contract Supplement No. 2 and Contract • <br />Supplement No. 3, dated August 31, 1954 and September 1, 1954 respectively, and pertain-i <br />ing to Contract No. 6; Santucci Construction Company, Contractor. '! <br />STREET DEPARTMENT <br />H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, brought to the attention of <br />the Board, the condition of the New York Central right-of-wgy on the north side of the <br />New York Central Railroad tracks east from Main Street. The Board directed the Clerk <br />to notify the railroad company of this condition and request that the site be cleaned <br />as quickly as possible. <br />Commissioner Tomlinson then reported a condition existing on the tracks of the <br />Chicago, South Bend and South Shore Railway, in the vicinity of Olive and Washington <br />• <br />Streets, where water stands in two or more low spots after heavy rain, regarding which <br />complaints have been made to his department. The Clerk was directed to bring this <br />matter to the attention of the South Shore, requesting the remedying of the condition. il <br />The Commissioner then discussed with the Board other matters pertaining to his <br />department, including the damaged condition of the Norton Drive Sewer, and the breakage ii <br />of three catch -basins, evidently -caused by heavy trucks. The matters were referred to <br />the City Engineer for his investigation and recommendations. The construction of a '! <br />dry -well at 1005 White Oak Drive was given some discussion, and it was the decision of ±i <br />the Board that this property owner is to buy and pay for the stone required, and also <br />pay the City the cost of delivering the stone to the site, estimated to be approximately+; <br />$5. 00 per hour for actual hauling _`. time . <br />Due to a remonstrance having been filed, objecting to the grade planned by the <br />City Engineert s office for the improvement of alley between Cottage Grove Avenue and <br />Cushing,Street, for which the profiles, drawings, plans and general details, spec ifiea- <br />tions and estimates were approved by the Board in regular meeting June 14, 1954 and i <br />the plans and specifications for which were adopted at the regular meeting of July 12, <br />1954, it was the decision of the Board to rescind all action taken in this matter, where;! <br />by Improvement Resolution No. 2783 is rendered null and void. <br />The Board next examined the recommendations of the consulting engineers, Consoer, <br />Townsend and Associates, relative to the cost and manner in which sewer at the location it <br />of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1167 Home on Lincoln Way East can be reinforced)+ <br />to insure against any possible damage to the sewer due to future building construction • <br />on this site, and directed the Clerk to notify the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.1167 <br />accordingly. <br />The Board next took note of a letter from. the Pacific Flush Tank Company, dated <br />September 3, 1954, in Re: Proposal for License - Kraus Interchange Process, according <br />to Paragraph 6 - Section "Ft' and Paragraph 1-H p. C-2(b) - Sewage Treatment Plant and <br />referred this matter to the office of the City Engineer for study and recommendation. '! <br />The Board next considered and approved the employment of Attorneys Charles W. Hahn <br />and Robert A. Zi is e os o 5.00 to the Parking Meter Funds accordingly. <br />a. <br />i <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2799 <br />This being the date set, hearing was had on the resolution heretofore adopted by <br />the Board of Public Works and Safety for the vacation of the ALLEY 'NEST OF LELAND AVENUE j <br />from the North line of the east west alley, north to California Avenue, under Vacation <br />Resolution No. 2799. The Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publicatign <br />and no remonstrators hsving appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with;.) <br />the Clerk, it was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be <br />finally adopted and the said alley be vacated. The Engineering Department is directed <br />to prepare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of <br />damages to the surrounding properties. <br />R. S. Andrysiak, City Engineer, filed primary assessment roll showing the awards <br />of damages and the assessments of benefits in the matter of the vacation of ALLEY WEST <br />OF LELAND AVENUE under Vacation Resolution No. 2799. <br />In the above named assessment roll, the Board hereby orders that it will meet in <br />the City Hall at 11:00 A.M. on the 4th day of October 1954 for the purpose of hearing <br />• <br />and receiving remonstrances from all persons interested in or affected by said <br />vacation and the Boar urtier orders that notice of said heari , together with the <br />damages benefits <br />amount off` aware an assessed be addressed to e pr perty owners <br />
