granted by the Board.
Next appeared Mr. Oscar C. Haynes in the matter of the use of a portable newsstand:
at the corner of Birdsell and Liston Streets. The Board was in unanimous agreement
for the banning of any additional newsstands infringing upon pedestrian traffic by
occupying portions of public sidewalk. However, Mr. Haynes was informed that he can
locate his newsstand on property belonging to him, providing it is two feet or more
distance back from the edge of the sidewalk.
April 22nd.
City Engineer, R. S. Andrysiak, brought to the attention of the Board the fact
that large advertising signs of a realty firm have been erected upon public property
without the authorization or approval of the Board. The Board directed the Clerk to
notify the realty firm to remove these signs.
A letter received from the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company, over the
signature of their Supervising Civil Engineer, Leo A. Witucki, under date of April 13,
1954, was next given consideration. The City Attorney will prepare the required
waiver for the protection of the City against possible damage claims, and the Clerk
was directed to inform the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company, by letter of the
granting of permit requested, provided such waiver is supplied the City.
A request from the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company, ( Mr. Ray Ullery) for
permission to erect three light poles on public property for the purpose of flood-
lighting certain premises on South Michigan Street, for commercial reasons, was denied
by the City Engineer, and the Board sustained the denial.
The Board next considered quotations received for the removal of the temporary
bulkhead, located at a point approximately five feet north of the first manhole south
