F_ <br />142 <br />March 15, 1954 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, March 15, 1954, <br />at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the regular meeting of March 8th <br />were read and approved. Werntz & Son 3.90 <br />12.25 Indiana Bell Telephone Co. 9.41 <br />17.38 <br />205.00 South Bend Tribune 84.'78 <br />450.00 Construction Digest 49.41 <br />41.69 Indianapolis Commercial 34.35 <br />First appeared before the Board Mr. Joseph Lochmondy of Mishawaka, a committeeman <br />for the Kimmett for Congress democratic organization, requesting permission to use a <br />public address device for public speeches on the downtown streets and various parts of <br />the city. City Attorney, I. A. Hurwich, being present, informed Mr. Lochmondy the <br />Cityts ordinance pertaining to this type of equipment forbids its use for such purpose. <br />Next appeared before the Board, Mr. C. A. Schille, 2029 Inglewood Place, requesting; <br />removal of Bus Stop to provide parking space in front of his private property. The <br />Board informed Mr. Schille an investigation would be made by the City Traffic Engineer, <br />of the situation presented, and the Board would be guided in their decision by the <br />Engineer's recommendations in the matter. <br />Then appeared before the Board Mr. Jules Kimmett, 304 Ardennes Avenue, Mishawaka, <br />democratic candidate for Congress, informing the Board that he is the applicant for <br />the P.A. system permit, and stating that his lawyer advised him that the use of such <br />equipment is permissable for campaigning purposes. Board member, I. A. Hurwich, then <br />read the city ordinance governing, and gave his opinion that such use is contrary to <br />the intent of the ordinance. Mr. Kimmett proceeded with the filing of a petition for <br />permit. <br />The Board next examined and approved Street Improvement Plan for Pyle Avenue, <br />from the South line of Edison Road to the northerly line of Rockne Drive, submitted <br />by Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates and bearing date of February 26, 1954- <br />VACATION RESOLUTION 2773 - 1954 <br />RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA! <br />That it is desirable to vacate the following: <br />is <br />Streets, alleys and Utility Easements, all in a part of Edison Park <br />Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />All of Benedict Avenue East of a line extending from <br />the southwest corner of Lot No. 351 in said Edison <br />Park Addition to the northwest corner of lot No.404 in said <br />Edison Park Addition <br />All of Delano Avenue North of the northwest line of <br />Eisenhower Avenue and Victory Avenue, all in said Edison <br />Park Addition <br />All of Menorah Avenue South of the south line of Rockne <br />Drive in said Edison Park Addition <br />The alley extending from Eisenhower Avenue to Benedict <br />Avenue and from Benedict Avenue north between lots numbered <br />354 and 355 <br />The alley extending from Victory Avenue to Menorah Avenue <br />and from Menorah Avenue west between lots Nos. 367 and 368 <br />All utility easements that affect any part of lots numbered <br />351 to 405, inclusive and 450 to 485 inclusive as shown on the <br />recorded plat of Edison Park Addition to the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana. <br />The following property may be injuriously or beneficially affected by such <br />vacation: <br />Lots numbered 351 to 405 inclusive <br />i and <br />Lots numbered 450 to 485 inclusive <br />in Edison Park Addition. <br />• <br />LJ <br />0 <br />• <br />• <br />
