F_ 142 March 15, 1954 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, March 15, 1954, at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the regular meeting of March 8th were read and approved. Claims of the following suppliers, in the total amount of $1525.65, were approved and ordered paid: Artcraf t Printers Artcraf t Printers Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. Indiana Bell Telephone Co. Werntz & Son 3.90 12.25 Indiana Bell Telephone Co. 9.41 17.38 205.00 South Bend Tribune 84.'78 450.00 Construction Digest 49.41 41.69 Indianapolis Commercial 34.35 First appeared before the Board Mr. Joseph Lochmondy of Mishawaka, a committeeman for the Kimmett for Congress democratic organization, requesting permission to use a public address device for public speeches on the downtown streets and various parts of the city. City Attorney, I. A. Hurwich, being present, informed Mr. Lochmondy the Cityts ordinance pertaining to this type of equipment forbids its use for such purpose. Next appeared before the Board, Mr. C. A. Schille, 2029 Inglewood Place, requesting; removal of Bus Stop to provide parking space in front of his private property. The Board informed Mr. Schille an investigation would be made by the City Traffic Engineer, of the situation presented, and the Board would be guided in their decision by the Engineer's recommendations in the matter. Then appeared before the Board Mr. Jules Kimmett, 304 Ardennes Avenue, Mishawaka, democratic candidate for Congress, informing the Board that he is the applicant for the P.A. system permit, and stating that his lawyer advised him that the use of such equipment is permissable for campaigning purposes. Board member, I. A. Hurwich, then read the city ordinance governing, and gave his opinion that such use is contrary to the intent of the ordinance. Mr. Kimmett proceeded with the filing of a petition for permit. The Board next examined and approved Street Improvement Plan for Pyle Avenue, from the South line of Edison Road to the northerly line of Rockne Drive, submitted by Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates and bearing date of February 26, 1954- VACATION RESOLUTION 2773 - 1954 RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA! That it is desirable to vacate the following: is Streets, alleys and Utility Easements, all in a part of Edison Park Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: All of Benedict Avenue East of a line extending from the southwest corner of Lot No. 351 in said Edison Park Addition to the northwest corner of lot No.404 in said Edison Park Addition All of Delano Avenue North of the northwest line of Eisenhower Avenue and Victory Avenue, all in said Edison Park Addition All of Menorah Avenue South of the south line of Rockne Drive in said Edison Park Addition The alley extending from Eisenhower Avenue to Benedict Avenue and from Benedict Avenue north between lots numbered 354 and 355 The alley extending from Victory Avenue to Menorah Avenue and from Menorah Avenue west between lots Nos. 367 and 368 All utility easements that affect any part of lots numbered 351 to 405, inclusive and 450 to 485 inclusive as shown on the recorded plat of Edison Park Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana.
