In further reference to the letter of G. H. Frank, General Agent, New York Central
'System, dated February 2b, 1954, addressed to City Engineer, R. S. Andrysiak, with
reference to unloading facilities for materials shipped in by rail for use in connection
with the Sewage Disposal Plant construction; the Board prepared and signed a.response.,
copy of which is to be supplied the general contractor, Sollitt Construction Company
The Clerk was directed to refer the entire file, with four copies for signatures, to
the Board of Park Commissioners for their consideration and approval, inasmuch as the
facilities available involve also a portion of Brownfield Park under the jurisdiction
of the Park Commissioners.
The Board next considered a drawing presented by Robert L. Huff, Director of Planning,
for the installation of a hedge for the parking lot adjoining the City Hall to the south.1
`This parking lot, being under the jurisdiction of the Water Works, the matter was referred
to the Board of Water Commissioners, and drawing was placed in the custody of James A.
Bickel, Chairman of the Board of Water Commissioners.
The Board then considered a communication from the City Plan Commission, suggesting
the preparation of an ordinance for the control of planting trees between sidewalk and
curb along minor residental streets in new subdivisions. It was the consensus of opinio
that such an ordinance would be highly beneficial from the angle of reduction of main-
tenance costs, and the City Attorney was instructed to prepare a suitable ordinance
accordingly.
A letter was received from the City Plan Commission recommending the vacation of
streets, alleyways and easements, all in Edison Park Addition to the City of South Bend,
and this was referred to the Engineering Department for further investigation and report.
The Board then considered a letter received from the law firm of Anderson and
Wattles, under date of February 22, 1954, clarifying the status of a piece of property
for which vacation is requested on the petition of Jean C. and Joseph O'Meara. The status
of this strip of land is now found to be as follows:
"Also a strip of land laying between said lots 118 and 119, dedicated
.in said plat for the public use of an alley, and vacated by action
of the Board of County Commissioners excepting and reserving from the
foregoing grant a strip of land fourteen(14) feet in width off of the
north side of said lot Numbered 118, which is hereby dedicated to the
public use for an alley."
