to alter said structures beyond maintaining them up to their present standard of safety <br />and sanitation. In order to permit these housing units to remain available to the <br />community for housing on this basis, the Board agrees not to require said units to be <br />brought up to code for an indefinite period so long as the units are maintained at <br />their present standard of safety and sanitation, and so long as these units are restrict <br />to occupancy for four families only. <br />A petition, bearing eleven signatures, calling for the improvement of Elmer Street, <br />from Elwood to Keller Street, by construction of sanitary sewer, was examined and <br />• referred to the City Civil Engineer for investigation and report. <br />i <br />�j STREET DEPARTMENT: <br />Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present, brought to the Boardts <br />attention the need for new contracts to supply his department with their requirements <br />for gravel, asphaltic oil, and rock salt. The Board directed the Clerk to.proceed with <br />i <br />the necessary legal advertising. <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: <br />Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, being present, discussed with the Board matters <br />pertaining to traffic regulation and suggested the need for an ordinance governing <br />the use and compliance with a certain type of traffic sign for the regulation of traffic <br />specificially the " YIELD RIGHT OF WAY" sign. This matter was assigned to the City <br />Attorney for preparation of suitable ordinance and its presentation to the Common Counci <br />The Board next examined and ordered placed on file, the minimum wage scale, as <br />established by the Governorts Committee, comprised of Oved E. Holmes, representing the <br />Governor of the State of Indiana, W. J. Morrow, representing the Indiana State Feder- <br />ation of Labor and D. C. Hay, representing the City of South Bend, setting forth the <br />I minimum wage for all trades or occupations to be employed in the construction of the <br />l interceptor sewers, sewage treatment plant, and all of its appurtenances. <br />The rate change request for parking lots at 217 N. LaFayette Boulevard and 207 South <br />Carroll Street, submitted by Green Arrow Parking Inc., over the signature of John K. <br />Sheehan, met with the approval of the Board. <br />Excavator's Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved by the <br />Board for John W. Rensberger and E. A. Strohm, d/b/a Strohm Construction Company. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 11:45 A.
