<br />Esther Manufacturing Corporation grant of Easement continued -
<br />An easement one -hundred fifty-two and five tenths (152.5)
<br />feet in length and eight (8) feet wide, the center 'line of which
<br />is the line between Lots numbered eight. -five (85) and eighty- j
<br />six (86) in Edison Park Addition, which is a distance of one- it
<br />hundred thirty-two and five tenths (132.5) feet, and the East
<br />twenty ( 20 ) feet of the line between lots numbered fifty-six
<br />(56) and fifty-seven (57), in Edison Park Addition, making a
<br />total distance of one -hundred fifty-two and five tenths (152.5) h
<br />feet. I!
<br />Letter of application for license to operate a parking lot at 425 South Main Street,I
<br />submitted by Inwood -Glaser Realty Company, was next examined. Certificate of Insurance I
<br />accompanying the application, indicated error in the public liability policy issued to
<br />this firm. Inwood -Glaser Realty Company was immediately notified, accordingly, and upon
<br />receipt of Certificate of Insurance showing corrected policy is in effect, the Board I!
<br />authorized the issuance of license. i
<br />The Board then took up the matter of the purchase of equipment from the Dependable j
<br />Disposal Company, Inc. In accordance with agreement with the Dependable Disposal Company
<br />•
<br />in consideration of having had the use of their equipment pending delivery of the new I'
<br />garbage collection equipment, and also in consideration of stand-by service rendered by
<br />the company during the transition period from operation by private contractor to operation
<br />by the City, the Clerk of the Board is authorized to issue a purchase order for the
<br />purchase from the Dependable Disposal Company, Inc., of the. following items of equipment,
<br />i.e. seven (7) garbage trucks with bodies, one (1) pick-up truck, and one (1) bulldozer
<br />"Terra-Trac" loader, for the total price of $6795.00. The company has agreed to permit
<br />the City to.store the equipment temporarily on their farm without cost, and the company
<br />has also agreed that delivery of the "Terra-Trac" loader will be made to the City after r
<br />they have fully completed their land -fill operation on their farm, and that delivery of
<br />the "Terra-Trac" loader will be made to the City in good condition, directly from the
<br />authorized dealer.

<br />Engineer Andrysiakis report of inspection and the satisfactory completion of the li
<br />building, supplied and const»ucted by the Armco Drainage & Metal Products, Inc., for
<br />the Sanitation Department, was examined and approved, and the Clerk was directed to
<br />forward the signed standard acceptance form to this company.
<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2763 - 1953 AWARDING CONTRACT !
<br />Engineerts Report, submitted by Wilbub H. Gartner & Associates, having been received,
<br />and examined by the Board, in the matter of bids for the improvement of ELLSWORTH PLACE
<br />from the center line of lots 27 and 70 in Jefferson Heights Addition to a point twenty- I,
<br />six feet south of the south line of Colfax Avenue, by constructing a local sewer in I
<br />accordance with Improvement Resolution No. 2763, 1953, passed by the Board of Public
<br />Works and Safety on October 12, 1953, and confirmed by said Board on November 9, 1953, �.
<br />the bid was awarded to Youngs Excavating Contractors for the surd. of $1961.0o.
<br />Elder M. G. Johnson, pastor of the Seventh Day Advertist Church, appeared before
<br />the Board, requesting permission to allow a group, or groups, of carollers from his
<br />church to sing Christmas carols on the streets in residential area, using a P. A. system.
<br />Inasmuch as it was agreed the carollers will move from block to block, singing only one
<br />or two carols at one location, and that this permit is not to be extended beyond. the
<br />Christmas season, permission was granted by the Board to allow this special activity.
<br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: �I •

<br />Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, was present, and was directed by the Board to
<br />further control the movement of traffic at the intersection of Western Avenue and
<br />Lafayette Boulevard by the use of green arrows.
<br />A request from the OtBrien Corporation for the use of special signs at their
<br />warehouse entrance, received careful consideration, and it was the consensus of opinion I;
<br />that the signs suggested would possibly be conducive to a more hazardous condition,
<br />instead of serving to increase safety as intended. Accodingly, permission was denied
<br />the OtBrien Corporation to erect or install the suggested signs.
<br />A petition placed with the Board by Hartman Builders, Inc., for the installation
<br />of street signs at the following intersections, was referred to Street Commissioner,
<br />H. M. Tomlinson, for his investigation and attention:
<br />Kenmore Street and Elwood Avenue
<br />Kenmore Street and Bulla Street
<br />Kenmore Street and Keller Street
<br />An agreement to be entered into between the State of Indiana, through the State
<br />Highway Department, and the City of South Bend, relative to signal equipment to be
<br />installed at the intersection of Lincolnway West and Bendix Drive was next consideredt
<br />approved, and signed by the Board.
<br />The Board approved installation of traffic signals at Michigan and Tutt Streets, •
<br />at Michigan and,Garst Streets, and Western and Sheridan Streets.
