Q <br />Boulevard and on the south side of Park Lane, Main Street to Lafayette Boulevard, for. <br />loading zone. <br />The prohibiting of parking along the north side of Grace Street from Webster Street <br />west to the dead end is hereby revoked. <br />A petition, dated October 12, 1953, submitted by Hans A. Hanson and Elizabeth Hanson!', <br />through their attorney, James W. Oberfell, for the vacating of alley in Baker and McHenry's <br />Addition, commencing at the Southwest corner of Lot 52 and extending from Roberts Street • <br />in an easterly direction one hundred nineteen and ninety-five hundreths feet, was examined <br />I <br />and referred to the City Plan Commission. <br />A petition, dated October 1L[, 1953, submitted by Aristidi S. Chacho and Sofi Chacho, <br />to vacate a portion of an alley which lies between St. Vincent Street and the northerly <br />line of Lot No. 14 in Heierman's Addition, was examined and referred to the City Plan <br />Commission. <br />Two Contractor's Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, for H. D. Strasser, and <br />Jerome Thibideau., were examined and approved by the Board. <br />It now being time for the hearing ordered pertaining to the petitions of the Yellow!; • <br />Cab Company for six additional taxi -cab licenses and for a two -cab stand at the South <br />Shore and the Greyhound Bus Stations and other Taxicab Licenses pending, the Board <br />adjourned to the Council Chamber to accommodate the persons desiring to attend and take <br />part in this hearing. <br />Mr. Ziegler, first introduced to the Board and others, Mr. Frank Batson, and space <br />was provided at the table of the Board for Mr. Batson. <br />City Attorney, I. A. Hurwich, first announced the Boardts receipt of petition and <br />remonstrance from Robert McCarthy. The City attorney then read a petition, submitted <br />by the Yellow Cab Company, requesting six additional taxi -cab licenses, the petitions <br />of the Yellow Cab Company, calling for two 2-cab stands, one at the South Shore depot, <br />and one at the Greyhound Bus terminal, and the petition of the United Cab Company <br />requesting six additional taxi -cab licenses, and two endorsements of petition, sub- <br />mitted ' by Robert Gawthorpe, President of the Courtesy Cab Company, endorsing petitions <br />of theYellow Cab Company for cab stands desired at the South Shore depot and Greyhound <br />Bus terminal. <br />The City Attorney then read the petition and remonstrances received by the Board, <br />from Robert McCarthy, Vice-Pres. of the Taxi Drivers Union, Local 141 A.F.L. <br />The Board was then addressed by Joseph T. Pawlowski, representing both the Yellow <br />Cab Company and the United Cab Company, in the capacity of officer, stock -holder and <br />attorney. <br />Following Attorney Pawlowskits address, the Board was addressed by Attorney James <br />E. Keating, citing a recent situation indicating an excess of cab service at the Airport. <br />Then followed for a considerable period, the direct questioning and interviewing, both <br />by the City Attorney and others present at the hearing, of the following persons: <br />Alfred Brown, Secy. of Local 141, A.F.L. <br />Robert McCarthy, V.P. of Local 141, A.F.L. <br />Rudolph Earl Cramer <br />James M. MCCormican <br />Otto Morehouse <br />Bert Liss <br />Marion_ Gorney <br />Walter C. Michalski <br />Cecil Crail <br />Marshall Holycross <br />and others <br />This concluded the hearing, and the City Attorney announced the proceedings would <br />be taken under advisement by the Board. <br />The Board then considered the affidavits for individual taxicab license, submitted <br />by Cecil L. Crail, Iytarshall A. Holycross, and Joseph J. Binder. The affidavit of Cecil <br />,L. Crail was accepted and the Board re -affirmed its approval for the issuance of a <br />license to this cab owner. The affidavits of Marshall A. Holycross were not accepted, <br />it being deemed no license would be required inasmuch as his service, under the name <br />Roseland Cab operates in and from the suburb of Roseland in Clay Township. The affi- <br />!davit of Jos. J. Binder was rejected by the Board. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 1:00 P.
