<br />i; First appeared before the Board Attorney, Aaron Hurd, representing the Chicago
<br />jSouth Shore and South Bend Railway Company and took up the matter of the estimated cost
<br />'to oil Orange Street for a distance of six blocks from curb to curb. Attorney Huguenard
<br />';made the offer of $300.00 to be contributed by the South Shore as their share for the
<br />;;cast of this street oiling operation, which the Board agreed was generous and acceptable.
<br />H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, asked that the South Shore
<br />;;arrange to have a man or crew present at the time this street oiling operation is per -
<br />"formed, to provide for the sanding of the rails to avoid danger of accident, incident to
<br />,difficulty in controlling trains on oily tracks. Attorney Huguenard agreed to make this
<br />1j provision.
<br />Referring to a reported "dip" in the road bed of the South Shore, causing annoyance
<br />I1to residents of Orange Street, the Board requested that action be taken by the South
<br />'!Shore to remedy this condition, to which Attorney Huguenard also made agreement.

<br />A report on the Orange Street dust condition brought about by the South Shore
<br />• strains, together with a request that the Board invite the presence of' South Shore off ieia±s
<br />kat the regular -meeting of the Common Council, Monday evening, September 14th, was next
<br />I1examined. In view of the fact that the Board has now directed the Street Commissioner
<br />to proceed in"the matter of the oiling of this street and the condition reported will be
<br />uentirely alleviated before September,14th, the Clerk was directed to so notify City Clerk
<br />1Mayme DuMont, the Board seeing no necessity,under the circumstances, to call upon these
<br />;;officials for appearance before the Council September 14th.
<br />. Mr. Louis M. Toth next appeared before the Board concerning water leakage from a
<br />:broken pipe at or near the shut-off in front of his property at 1602 Prairie Avenue. Hey
<br />stated'he has been unable to secure a plumber to give this the immediate attention i
<br />;'needed. Mr. Toth was referred by the Board to Mr. James Bickel of the City Water Works.
<br />Next appeared Engineer Wm. S. Moore, who presented plans for McKinley Terrace
<br />!:Addition, Section "B", of Land Developers Company, Inc., et al, of South Bend, Indiana, !�
<br />�'bearin the a I g pproval of the City Plan Commission, under date of August 6, 1953. ;I
<br />DEDICATION
<br />j WHEREAS, A plat with dedication of streets and easements indicated thereon is now j
<br />(presented to the Board, to be known as McKinley Terrace Addition, Section "B" an addition;!
<br />,to the City of South Bend, Indiana, and
<br />i This plat and dedication is -filed in the records of the Board of Public Works and
<br />• Safety and recorded in Book # /I' , Page Jj)e , in the Recorder t s Office of St. Joseph County,:
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City
<br />of South Bend, Indiana, that all public streets and easements dedicated to the public
<br />;use in said plat are hereby accepted and approved by said Board for and on behalf of the j
<br />. ;City of South Bend, Indiana.
<br />. Some discussion was given to the drainage pond in this addition, concerning the
<br />;probabilities of it becoming_a health problem, and the possible necessity of installing
<br />a sump -pump. Present statu escribed and the matter is to be given further attention
<br />!at an early date.
<br />i The Board next examined the plot plan of the additions and alterations to be made
<br />on the Central Office Building of the Indiana Bell Telephone Company at Main and Wayne
<br />'Streets, indicating area required for storage of materials during progress of construeti
