<br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, July 13, 1953,
<br />iat 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read
<br />I!,and approved. Claims of the following suppliers, in the amount of 12,256.95, were

<br />!' First appeared before the Board Mr. James P. Ledd 914 Roosevelt Street presenting',

<br />' a complaint on the part of himself and other home -owners of the neighborhood, relative
<br />ito a dilapidated house and weed -covered and neglected lot, known as Lot 230 Northwest
<br />;'Addition. Mr. Leddy placed before the Board a photograph of these premises, and mentioned:.
<br />;;the fact that neighborhood children have been seriously injured playing in this vacant
<br />iramshackle house, which the photographic and descriptive evidence plainly indicates to
<br />>be a nuisance, a serious health and fire hazard, and damaging to property values in the
<br />;.immediate neighborhood. The Board proceeded to authorize the removal of this nuisance,
<br />:,and directed the Clerk to notify Mr. Ben Katz, First Bank and Trust Co. Trustee, atten-
<br />!tion of 14;r. G. L. Vance, and Richard Kleiser, Auditor, St. Joseph County, that unless
<br />this nuisance is abated and the property cleared of the dilapidated house and weeds
<br />;Ion or before July 20th, the Board will proceed with such clearance by city employees and
<br />'I equipment.
<br />Next appeared before the Board, 1ti11r. Paul LaMar, representing the St. Joseph Bank &
<br />Trust Co., presenting a drawing of the proposed depositors drive-in to be constructed
<br />immediately east and in the rear of this Bank. Mr. LaMar stated a parking attendant
<br />would be on duty in the area and the bank would provide the necessary markers to direct
<br />traffic on the premises. It was also stated that the bus company has been notified and
<br />is agreeable to the moving of bus -stop to the end of the block. It has been further
<br />agreed, by the bank, and other owners of property abutting on the alley, involved with
<br />this drive-in, to pay for the paving of this alley at this location, the City to super-
<br />vise the alley construction to assure provision for proper drainage. It was stated
<br />that the traffic pattern for this drive-in has met with the approval of the Traffic
<br />Engineer and the Chief of Police. The Board, thereupon, granted their approval of the
<br />proposed drive-in.
<br />The Board next examined and approved plans for server improvement on Union Street
<br />from the center line of MacArthur Avenue to the center line of Lot 59, Edison Park
<br />Addition, and the Edison Park Trunk Sewer - Ironwood Drive, Solomon Avenue, Congress
<br />Avenue and ZIacArthur Avenue.

<br />ITVPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO.2745 - 1953
<br />Certification of Completion was furnished by the civil engineer, Wilbur H. Gartner,
<br />of the contract between the City of South Bend, Indiana, Owner, and the Tri-State
<br />Excavators, Contractor, for the construction of the local sewer improvement on NORTH
<br />HUEY STREET from 30 feet south of the south line of Hamilton Street to 264 feet -south
<br />of the south line of Hamilton Street under Improvement Resolution No. 2745, has been
<br />completed in accordance with the plans and specifications for this project.

<br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, that the Final. Estimate and Primary Assessment Roll submitted to the Board,
<br />by the City Civil Engineer or his duly authorized representative on this 13th day of
<br />July, 1953 on the improvement known as the NORTH HUEY STREET LOCAL SEWER as described in
<br />Improvement Resolution No. 2745, passed by the Board of Public Works and Safety on
<br />February 24, 1953, and confirmed by said Board on lVarch 30, 1953, be and the same is
<br />hereby adopted, and the Clerk of this Board is hereby requested to give notice of the
<br />hearing of Special Benefits on said Improvement, as required by Section N. 111 or 120
<br />of an Act entitled, "An Act Concerning 'unicipal Corporations" approved March 6, 1905.
