M
accomplished upon funds becoming available for this equipmemt. This action is well under
way and it was conceded that the matter is proceeding without any undue delay.
The Street Commissioner next brought to the Board's attention, the alley inter-
secting Elwood Avenue and paralleling Portage Avenue in the 1400 block, together with
the alley bisecting this block and paralleling Elwood Avenue, which are in need of oiling
and which improvement the principal land -yawner involved has agreed to pay for., it was
noted, however, that the alley, as used from the Elwood Avenue entrance, due to topograph
of the land at this point, comprises a 14-foot strip on the west end of the private
property of the individual requesting the improvement of these alleys. The Commissioner
was directed to obtain from this land -owner, in writing, a statement authorizing the use
of this specific 14-foot strip of land as a public alley for the period of one year,
upon receipt of which, the Commissioner is to proceed with the pea gravel and asphaltic
oil improvement of the alleys, as requested.
The probable cost for the sandblasting of the front of the City Hall, having been
estimated by a competent estimator at approximately $1150.00, and this amount not being
available at this time, the Board decided to defer this needed cleaning operation for
one year. Estimator also suggested that the tuck -pointing should be done at the same
time from an economy standpoint, and placed the probable cost of the minimum tuck-pointin
required at $1500.00.
A schedule of price changes affecting Parking Lot at 118 South LaFayette Boulevard,
submitted by the South Bend Parking Co., Inc., under date of May 21st, was examined and
ordered filed.
An Excavatorts Bond in the sum of $2,000.00, binding James A Currie, as principal
and the American Automobile Insurance Company of St. Louis, as surety, was examined
and approved.
The following Contractors Bonds, each in the amount of 1,000.00, were examined
and approved by the Board:
Benjamin Brothers, by Nathan R. Benjamin, Jr. a partner
H. F. Glaser, Jr. Construction Company
Earl Stahl.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned
t 11:25 A.
