14 <br />May 18, 1953 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, May 18, 1953, at <br />10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and <br />approved. Nolan, Contractor 4.010.73 <br />STREET & TRAFFIC: <br />South Bend Electric Co. 455.07 Indiana Bell Telephone Co. 11.24 <br />First appeared before the Board, Marvin R. Wallace, chairman of the Poppy Sales <br />Committee, Veterans of Foreign Wars, requesting permit be issued to the V.F.W. to <br />conduct their annual "Poppy Day" on _Friday and Saturday, May 22nd and May 23rd, in <br />conjunction with the American Legion, in the customary manner. Permission was granted <br />i! and the Clerk directed to provide confirming written permit. <br />A letter addressed to the Mayor, and referred by the Mayor to the Board, was <br />next read, and the Resolution attached thereto, prepared and adopted by..the membership <br />of Studebaker Local No. 5 (UAW -CIO) was ordered to be included and made a part of the <br />minutes of this meeting of the Board. <br />WHEREAS: The members of Studebaker Local #5, UAW -CIO, of whomthe vast <br />majority are residents and tax payers of St. Joseph County and <br />of the cities of South Bend and Mishawaka, do hereby recognize <br />that for the first time since the beginning of World War II, j <br />the products of our employer are no longer on a restricted <br />basis, and i <br />3, <br />WHEREAS: Since Studebaker is the largest tax -payer in St. Joseph County <br />and the largest employer of citizens of St. Joseph County, we <br />feel that every consideration possible should be given to <br />their products as far as public owned vehicles are concerned, so: <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: <br />That we instruct the Executive Officers of our Local to contact <br />public officials of the cities of South Bend, Mishawaka, and <br />St. Joseph County urging them to purchase the products of our <br />home town manufacturers before they consider products manu- <br />factured outside the State of Indiana; and be it <br />FINALLY RESOLVED: That copies of this resolution be sent to Mayor John <br />Scott of the city of South Bend, Mayor E. Spencer Walton of <br />the city of Mishawaka, the following County Commissioners of <br />St. Joseph County, Mr. VanDewalle, Mr. Sanders and Mr. Hanley, <br />also to the Press. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: <br />A drawing, submitted by Wilbur H. Gartner and Associates, of the Plat of <br />Swanson Park Fifth Addition, was next examined and approved by the Board. <br />DEDICATION <br />SWANSON PARK FIFTH ADDITION <br />WHEREAS, a plat with dedication of streets and utility easements indicated <br />thereon is now presented to the Board to be known as Swanson Park Fifth Addition, <br />an addition to South Bend, Indiana and this plat and dedication is filed in the .� <br />records of the Board of Public Works and Safety, and recorded in Book #/b', Page's <br />in the Recorderts Office of St. Joseph County. <br />Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the <br />. City of South Bend, Indiana, that all public streets and public places dedicated to <br />the public use in said plat are hereby accepted and approved by said Board for and <br />on behalf of the City of South Bend, Indiana. <br />The annexed drawing is a plat of Swanson Park Fifth Addition to the City of <br />South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana and is a sub -division of the west one-half (2) <br />of Lot Fifty (50) , Lot Fifty -Six (56) , Lot Sixty-seven ( 67 ) and part of Lot Sixty -Six <br />(66) in the recorded plat of Jefferson Heights Addition to said City, said tract of <br />land being more particularly described as follows: <br />n <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />C. <br />• <br />
