<br />Next appeared before the Board, Mr. John Poleyn, 1901 W. Indiana Avenue, on behalf
<br />11of West Indiana Avenue home owners, -concerning petition filed by them under date of
<br />April 22, 1953 to enforce load limit for trucks using west Indiana Avenue from Prairie
<br />;;Avenue to Olive Street. This petition, originally placed with the Common Council, had,
<br />by motion of Councilman Korpal, duly seconded and carried, been referred by the Council
<br />to the Board of Public Works, under date of April 27th. Mr. Polcyn particularly pointed
<br />out that the principal purpose of the petition was to terminate the use of this part
<br />• of West Indiana Avenue by semi -trailers transporting steel to the Studebaker plant.
<br />,;Board member, Irving A. Hurwich, informed Ir. Polcyn of the matter having already had
<br />the attention of the Board, as a matter of law enforcement, and was now in the hands
<br />of Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, who is to provide motorcyle patrol of this street
<br />with a view to remedying the excess of heavy traffic complained of by the petitioners.
<br />Some further discussion ensued, and it was agreed that in the event no definite improve-
<br />ment in the situation has taken place within the next two weeks, Mr. Polcyn will again
<br />;appear before the Board at the regular meeting, Monday, May 18th and register further
<br />"complaint in the matter. Mr. Polcyn then withdrew, and Mr. Hurwich asked that Traffic
<br />.Engineer, E. H. Miller, appear before the Board. Mr. Miller, being present, the topic
<br />received further discussion.
<br />An investigation of the situation from all angles, and a report on his findings, is
<br />to be rendered by the Traffic Engineer at the next regular meeting of the Board.

<br />April 22nd, addressed to Traffic Engineer Miller, from
<br />sr, Pennsylvania Railroad, was,presented to the Board, re-
<br />made by representatives of the Pennsylvania, the New York
<br />Railroads in connection with flasher signal needs at the
<br />Street crossings. This letter, which was given consideration
<br />Lon to the need for additional street lights at each of these
<br />improve visibility at night.
<br />The Board approved the placing of STOP signs at the following locations:
<br />Ford Street at Lombardy Drive
<br />Lombardy Drive at Sample Street
<br />Parkview at Oakwood
<br />Meade Street at Prast Boulevard.
<br />A petition to vacate the dead end of Fox Street from High. Street to the Studebaker
<br />'Golf Course was examined and referred to the City Plan Commission.
<br />A petition to vacate the east and west 14-foot alley along the southerly line of
<br />Lot #247, and a property which is sometimes referred to as Lot #248 in the Third Plat
<br />of the Northwest Addition, was examined and referred to the City Plan Commission.
<br />Excavation Bond in the sum of $10,000.00, binding R. M. Checkley, as principal
<br />and Capitol Indemnity Insurance Company as surety, was examined and approved by .the
<br />Board, and Excavation Bond in the sum of $1,000.00, issued by the American Surety Company';
<br />of New York for Indiana Bell Telephone Company, as principal, was examined and approved
<br />by the Board.
<br />Contractor►s Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, binding the following named
<br />Contractors, were examined and approved:
