<br />First appeared before the Board, Mrs. J. V. LaBonte, 1136 E. Dayton St., on behalf
<br />of the Marine Corps League, asking the Board for permission to conduct their annual
<br />"Plums for Marines" flower sale on Friday, August 7th and Saturday, August dth. There
<br />being no previous assignment of these dates, the Board thereupon, granted permit to
<br />• the Marine Corps League.
<br />Next appeared before the Board, Allen Hunt, Jr., C. A. P. Information Officer,
<br />asking permission of the Board to distribute a quantity of leaflets from an airplane
<br />above the downtown district at the time of the Armed Services Day parade, Saturday,
<br />,:May 9th. The demonstration, and leaflet, being for the purpose of arousing interest in,
<br />and securing recruits for the Civil Defense Ground Observer Corps to fully staff this
<br />!, principal adjunct of the C. D. Filter Center, the Board granted permission with the
<br />stipulation that a minimum quantity of leaflets be released sufficient to provide the
<br />desired exhibition and publicity, and avoid adverse criticism and unnecessary clutter.
<br />Oliver H. Ogden, architectural engineer for the firm of Maurer & Maurer, next
<br />• appeared before the Board and displayed a drawing for an underground structure across
<br />the east and west alley between Wayne Street and Western Avenue, approximately seventy-
<br />four feet east of the east line of Main Street, and an overhead structure at the second
<br />story level, over the above described alley and approximately thirteen feet east of the
<br />east line of Main Street. Mr. Ogden, on behalf of the First Christian Church, asked the
<br />Board's approval of the proposed construction. The Board approved the structures,
<br />stipulating that the overhead structure must comply fully with all clearance regulations.,
<br />and all other regulations of the Building Code.

<br />ENGINEER'S CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
<br />Certificate of Completion was furnished by civil engineer, Wilbur H. Gartner,
<br />accompanied by Contractor's Completion Affidavit of the contract between the City of
<br />South Bend, Indiana, Owner, and the Rieth-Riley Construction Company, Contractor, for
<br />the construction of the pavement improvement on ALLEY BETWEEN IRONWOOD DRIVE AND TWENTY-
<br />THIRD STREET, from the north line of Mishawaka Avenue to the south line of Wall Street,
<br />under Improvement Resolution No. 2733 - 1952 has been completed in accordance with the
<br />plans and specificatinns for this project.

<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2733 - 1952
<br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend.
<br />Indiana, that the Final Estimate and Primary Assessment Roll submitted to the Board
<br />by the City Civil Engineer or his duly authorized representative on this 4th day of
<br />May, 1953 on the improvement known as the ALLEY BETWEEN IRONWOOD DRIVE AND TWENTY=THIRD
<br />STREET PAVEh1ENT as described in Improvement Resolution No. 2733 - 1952, passed by the
<br />Board of Public Works and Safety on August 21, 1952, and confirmed by said Board on
<br />September 15, 1952, be and the same is hereby adopted, and the Clerk of this Board is
<br />hereby requested to give notice of the hearing of Special Benefits on said Improvement
<br />as required by Section N. 111 or 120 of an Act entitled, "An Act Concerning Municipal
<br />Corporations" approved Parch 6, 1905.
