Grimm, 829 S. 30th Street, due to injury received by Mrs. Grimm,due to condition of intersection, where alley crosses sidewalk immediately north of Mishawaka Avenue on 30th Street, and which was unsafe for pedestrians at the time accident occurred, March 16, 1953, was received and referred to the City Attorney for settlement. The petition submitted by Mrs. Walter E. Wilson, bearing twenty-three signatures, requesting that an Auxiliary Police woman be provided for the benefit of Muessel and Holy Cross school children at the intersection of Portage, California, Cottage Grove, and DeMaude Avenue, was examined and referred to Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, for investigation and report. A letter addressed to the Board from Bert Liss, President, Indiana Cab Company, reporting on the survey conducted by himself and Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, was next examined by the Board. In consideration of the cab company relinquishing three cab stands on Michigan Street, the Board extended permission to Indiana Cab Company to operate a 2-cab taxi -stand on the south side of Jefferson Boulevard, west of the Michigan Street intersection. The installation of STOP signs at the following locations, was approved by the Board: Dunham Street at Meade Street St. Vincent Street at Stanfield Street Napoleon Boulevard at Stanfield Street. A letter addressed to Mr. Walter Erler, from Dollar Lake Peat Moss Distributors, offering trash disposal facilities within reasonable distance of the City, and referred to the Board by Mr. Erler,was examined and ordered placed on file. Report of motion made by Councilman Muszynski, seconded by Councilman Korpal, and carried, at the April 13th regular meeting of the Council, asking an examination by the Board of Public Works of railroad smoke condition in the vicinity of Dunham Street and the New York Central Railroad, was examined and ordered filed. This being the time set for the opening of bids, announcement was so made, and the chairman proceeded to open and read bids, as follows: NORTH HUEY STREET SEWER BIDS HENRY J. KUBIAK 1918 LINDEN AVENUE SOUTH BEND, INDIANA Bid Bond for $1400.00 and Non - Collusion Affidavit accompanied the Bid. TOTAL ITEM EXTENSION ---------------------- $1396.40 NILES EXCAVATING COMPANY Certified Check for $100.00 and NILES, MICHIGAN Non -Collusion Affidavit accompanie the Bid. TOTAL ITEM EXTENSION ---- r---------1460.00. The above bids were examined and referred to Wilbur H. Gartner & Associates, Civil Engineers, for tabulation and report. Complete Meter on a trade-in basis less sidewalk base cover and pipe --- 046.00 each These bids were taken under advisement. STREET DEPARTMENT: H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, reported upon the findings of his sewer inspector, Emil Gryp, with reference to request for catch basins in the 1700 block North Olive Street. In view of the existing situation, as reported by Mr. Gryp, and his recommendation that no catch -basin installation should be made, the Board denied the request. Mr. Tomlinson next presented a letter from Schuyler Rose, Inc. offering the City a quantity of road oil. Inquiry by the Board concerning the quality of this material indicated it was undesirable and the Commissioner was directed to reject the offer.
