Grimm, 829 S. 30th Street, due <br />to injury received by Mrs. Grimm,due to condition of intersection, where alley crosses <br />sidewalk immediately north of Mishawaka Avenue on 30th Street, and which was unsafe <br />for pedestrians at the time accident occurred, March 16, 1953, was received and referred <br />to the City Attorney for settlement. <br />The petition submitted by Mrs. Walter E. Wilson, bearing twenty-three signatures, <br />requesting that an Auxiliary Police woman be provided for the benefit of Muessel and <br />Holy Cross school children at the intersection of Portage, California, Cottage Grove, <br />and DeMaude Avenue, was examined and referred to Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, for <br />investigation and report. <br />A letter addressed to the Board from Bert Liss, President, Indiana Cab Company, <br />reporting on the survey conducted by himself and Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, was <br />next examined by the Board. In consideration of the cab company relinquishing three <br />cab stands on Michigan Street, the Board extended permission to Indiana Cab Company to <br />operate a 2-cab taxi -stand on the south side of Jefferson Boulevard, west of the <br />Michigan Street intersection. <br />The installation of STOP signs at the following locations, was approved by the <br />Board: <br />Dunham Street at Meade Street <br />St. Vincent Street at Stanfield Street <br />Napoleon Boulevard at Stanfield Street. <br />A letter addressed to Mr. Walter Erler, from Dollar Lake Peat Moss Distributors, <br />offering trash disposal facilities within reasonable distance of the City, and referred <br />to the Board by Mr. Erler,was examined and ordered placed on file. <br />Report of motion made by Councilman Muszynski, seconded by Councilman Korpal, and <br />carried, at the April 13th regular meeting of the Council, asking an examination by the <br />Board of Public Works of railroad smoke condition in the vicinity of Dunham Street and <br />the New York Central Railroad, was examined and ordered filed. <br />This being the time set for the opening of bids, announcement was so made, and <br />the chairman proceeded to open and read bids, as follows: <br />NORTH HUEY STREET SEWER BIDS <br />HENRY J. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, reported upon the findings <br />of his sewer inspector, Emil Gryp, with reference to request for catch basins in the <br />1700 block North Olive Street. In view of the existing situation, as reported by <br />Mr. Gryp, and his recommendation that no catch -basin installation should be made, the <br />Board denied the request. <br />Mr. Tomlinson next presented a letter from Schuyler Rose, Inc. offering the City <br />a quantity of road oil. Inquiry by the Board concerning the quality of this material <br />indicated it was undesirable and the Commissioner was directed to reject the offer. <br />
