The Board's attention was next called to a section of a dedicated street, which <br />has never been opened, located on Elmer at Lathrop Street for a distance of two blocks <br />1 south from this intersection. H. Miller were next examined and given favorable <br />I comment by the Board. <br />- A.petition, bearing date of March 25, submitted by C. Harry Swanson, Inc. for the <br />vacating of a 10 f t. wide walk area, between and along the entire depth of Lots 18 and <br />49 in the recorded plat of Swanson Park, Fourth Addition, was examined and referred to <br />the City Plan Commission for investigation and report. <br />'• I A petition, bearing the date of March 26th, submitted by Ralph W. Cripe and Irene <br />Harper to vacate first alley west of Twyckenham Drive, from Mishawaka Avenue north to <br />the -first east and west alley, was examined and referred to the City Plan Commission. <br />The petition of the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company for the vacation of that <br />portion of the first alley West of Kaley Street in the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />which is located between the North line of Colfax Avenue and the Southerly line of <br />Kankakee Street in the City of South Bend, Indiana, was examined and referred to the <br />i <br />City Plan Commission for their recommendation <br />A petition, bearing date of March 27th for the improvement of east and west alley <br />• between St. Joseph and Carroll Streets and Altgeld Street and Ewing Avenue, by the <br />construction of a permanent type of paving, under the Barrett Law plan, was next exam- <br />ined and referred to the City Engineer for investigation and report. <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: <br />The installation of Stop Signs at the following locations was approved by the <br />Board: <br />On Donald at Taylor <br />On Napoleon Boulevard at the northeast <br />corner of Notre Dame Avenue <br />i On Wall Street at Twyckenham Drive <br />•j The Traffic Department's need for three 2-way 3-section underground -feed type <br />Signals, for Ott post mounting, was brought to the attention of the Board, and the Clerk <br />was directed to purchase this equipment. <br />The Board's attention was called to the quotation of $2.60 per gallon for an <br />improved rubberized white traffic paint. Inasmuch as no test has been run of this <br />paint, it was agreed that five or ten gallons would be obtained and the Traffic Engineer <br />would put this product through the regular test. <br />The report of Sexton Clifton P. Engle, covering the charge for opening and closing <br />of grave, as representing the only charge made in connection with burialof War Veterans, <br />• was read by the Board and the Clerk was directed to notify Raymond A. Hoyer, local <br />administrator of Federal Social Security accordingly. <br />The application for taxi permit of Joseph J. Binder was denied, investigation <br />having revealed the previous rejection of this applicant by the Board, under date of <br />April 3, 1950 and there being no feasible reason to over -rule the Board's previous <br />decision. <br />• <br />Contractorts Bonds, each in the amount of $I,000.00, were approved by the Board, <br />binding the following contractors: <br />J.
