A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, March 30, 1953,
<br />at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read

<br />The request of Mrs. Dennis Miller, 2216 E. Madison Street, South Bend, Indiana,
<br />representing the Rainbow Girls of South Bend, for permission for their organization to
<br />sell Easter lilies in the down town street corners of South Bend, including River Park,
<br />the proceeds of which are for the St. Joseph County Crippled Children's Society, on
<br />Saturday, April 4th, was approved by the Board.
<br />STREET DEPARTMENT:
<br />• Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, being present, first took up with the Board
<br />a problem of the payment of a Street Department employee, involving accumulated sick
<br />leave. Commissioner Tomlinson explained his own personal conclusion and decision in
<br />the matter, in which the Board concurred, directing the Commissioner to proceed accord-
<br />ingly.
<br />A petition calling for the installation of a catch basin at the intersection of
<br />IOlive and Keller Streets was examined by the Board and referred to the Street Commissio
<br />for investigation and report.
<br />The report of holes in the pavement on Linden Avenue and Pagin Street, near this
<br />intersection, was referred by the Board to Commissioner Tomlinson for attention.
<br />PARKING METER DEPARTMENT:
<br />Casimir Dzikowski, Auditor of the Parking Meter Department, being present, placed
<br />his request for 500 new parking meters before the Board. Some discussion ensued, and
<br />upon the recommendation of Mr. G. P. Ziegler, the Board authorized Mr. Dzikowski to
<br />proceed with the purchase of not to exceed 200 new parking meters.
<br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT:
<br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION RESCINDED
<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2746
<br />For the improvement of ROBINSON STREET from the south line of Bowman Street to
<br />the north line of Donald Street by constructing a Class "C" pavement under Improvement
<br />Resolution No. 2746, 1953, adopted February 24, 1953 and first confirmed on March 23,
<br />1953•
<br />A written remonstrance against said improvement bearing the signatures of fifty-
<br />one (51%) percent or more of the resident properpy owners on said street, who may be
<br />liable for assessment for said improvement, having been filed with said Board within
<br />the ten day period following date and time of the hearing on said improvement, therefore
<br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend,
<br />Indiana, that Improvement Resolution No. 2746, 1953, duly adopted by this Board on
<br />February 24, 1953, and first confirmed on March 23, 1953, be and the same is in all
<br />things rescinded and the improvement is hereby ordered not made.
