W. Dzikowski
28.00
1
First appeared before the Board, Mr. Marvin Oestreicher, manager of the Plaza
Cleaners, 222 W. Washington Avenue, presenting the serious problem with which his
establishment is confronted in the matter of the loading and unloading of his delivery
and pick-up trucks, as well as the brief parking required for customerst cars, there
being no rear entrance available and the use of Washington Avenue frontage resulting in
continuous violation of traffic regulations and the payment of fines accordingly.
Considerable discussion followed and various suggestions were offered, none of which
appeared to be feasible. The Board then turned the matter over to the Traffic Engineer
for study and recommendation and directed Mr. Oestreicher to consult with E. H. Miller. •
Next appeared attorney Louis J. Wynne and officials of the Dependable Disposal
Company.. The Board first informed these people of the advisability of purchasing a
bulldozer of not less than 10 tons weight, and of a make having local sales and service
representation. Mr. Andrysiak pointed out that only such a piece of equipment would be
acceptable to the Board for purchase from the Dependable Disposal Company in the event
the City were to take over the garbage and trash disposal service and pointed out very
definitely the economical aspects in the matter of less down time and minimum trans-
portation involved for repairs, and the better job performed in compacting the rubbish
by the heavier equipment, and the importance and advantages of the best possible job
of compaction. •
Attorney Wynne brought to the attention of the Board a loss of approximately
$1,000.00 per month for the year of 1952, and the probability that loss due to operating
costs would, in 1953 approach $2,000.00 per month, in view of the elimination, under
the law, of fattening hogs on this refuse.
Attention was called to the cooking process, which permits feeding of garbage to
hogs under the new statute. It was the consensus of opinion of the Dependable Disposal
Company officials that the condition in which the garbage and trash is received pre-
cludes any possibility of the cooking process.
The Board then examined an operations cost statement for the year of 19522 presente
by attorney Wynne. The Board directed attorney Wynne to present these figures, to-
gether with estimated figures to be prepared showing some four or five different methods
of.operation, including land -fill site being provided by the City, to this evening's
