-1 559 The Traffic Department's need for 200 10-foot U-Posts, to be obtained from the prison at Michigan City at a cost of $2.44 each, was brought to the Board's attention, and the Clerk was directed to proceed with this purchase. M STREET DEPARTMENT: Harry M. Tomlinson., Street Commissioner, being present, turned over to the Board . i a tabulation of bids opened -at the Board meeting of January 19th. Tabulation was examined and the following contracts were awarded by the Board: American Steel Supply Company = 40 Tons Calcium Chloride at $25.00 per ton. and Mid -Continent Chemical Company - 40 Tons Calcium Chloride at per ton. Concrete, Ine.Ready Mixed Concrete - $8.55,8.95, �9.55 �25.00 u..Yd. different streng South Bend Sand & Gravel Company - Mortar Sand at $1.00 per ton and C. D. Smelser Company - Mortar Sand at'$1.00 per ton; j South Bend Sand & Gravel Company - Washed Concrete Sand at $1.00 per ton I - C. D. Smelser Company - Washed Pea Gravel at 80� per ton .C. D. Smelser Company -,Washed Asphalt Gravel at 60 per ton 'Rieth-Riley Construction Company - Bituminous Coated Aggregate at $6.57 per ton in 3-Ton loads or more, for smaller lot add 75S 'per ton. The matter of.new desks for the Council Chamber was again taken up by the Board and specifications having been submitted by the Council president, Walter C. Erler, the,Board directed the Clerk to proceed with the legal advertising for bids. The matter of paving Mishawaka Avenue for the distance of 1320 feet from . Twypkenham Drive to Greenlawn Avenue in front of the John Adams High School, was next given attention by the Board, and the following resolution was adopted: RESOLVED that we hereby instruct the Engineering Department to prepare plans and specifications with which to proceed with the paving of Mishawaka Avenue, immediatel in front of the grounds occupied by the John Adams High School, from Twyckenham Drive to Greenlawn Avenue. Some discussion took place, but no action was taken in the matter of the installing of needed islands and signals, and the urgency for re -surfacing, at the intersection of Bendix Drive and Westmoor. In the absence of board member, Granville P. Ziegler, whose advice and concurrence in the matter of the proposed washing of walls, ceilings, and woodwork of the lobbies and certain offices in the City Hall, the Board took no action on the quotations received to perform this work. I The Board approved Excavation Bonds, each in the sum of 81,000.00, for Strohm Construction Company, Mishawaka, Indiana, and Edward J. White, Inc., South Bend Indiana, and also Contractorts Bond, in the sum of 01,000.00 for Lafayette Pfiacumber & Sons, Inc. Elkhart, Indiana.
