555 <br />January 26, 1953 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, January 26, 1953, <br />at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read <br />and approved. Salary claims in the amount of $25,618.24 were approved. Robinson, representing the American <br />War Mothers, requesting permission of the Board to designate the date of Saturday, <br />May 9, for this organization's annual sale of boutonnieres on the downtown streets. No. <br />iconflicting permit having been granted, the Board gave their approval and directed <br />that a letter of permit be furnished by the Clerk of the Board. <br />Mrs. 19m. Eichorst, Chairman of Flower Day Comm., Daughters of Union Veterans, <br />;appeared before the Board requesting permission to conduct their annual flower sale <br />ion the downtown streets on Saturday, April 25th. No conflicting permit having been <br />'granted, the Board gave their approval and directed the Clerk to furnish a letter of <br />permit to this organization. <br />Rt. Rev. Msgr. John S. Sabo appeared before the Board and presented a letter and <br />blueprints pertaining to annexing to the City of South Bend that portion of the area on <br />!which the new Catholic High School is being constructed, presently lying outside the <br />'city limits. The matter was given considerable discussion and the statutes referred to <br />• hand read, resulting in the unanimous opinion of the Board that the matter should be <br />laid before the Common Council for the required special ordinance, and Msgr. Sabo was <br />so instructed. <br />The Board next examined and approved plans for grade, curb, walks and pavement, <br />!submitted by Portage Realty Corporation for the following streets in West Maven <br />Addition: <br />Canterbury Drive <br />Sussex Drive 1 <br />Grove Street �{ <br />The Board next examined and approved plans for grade and pavement of Elwood Avenue, <br />West Haven Addition, as submitted by Portage Realty Corporation.ij <br />The Board also examined and approved sewer plans for Ardmore Trail, Canterbury <br />Drive and Sussex Drive of West Haven Addition, as submitted by Portage Realty Corporatio �. <br />McKinley Terrace, Section "A" sewer plans were next examined and approved by the <br />Board, as submitted by Place and Company, Inc., and designated, as follows: <br />i' Brighton Place <br />Whitehall Drive <br />Patterson Drive <br />• I Hickory Road <br />Sorin Street <br />Corby Street <br />I Brookhurst Place <br />Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., appearing by its attorney, Nicholas Pa Cholis, and <br />its President and General 14anager, John T. Martin, made proof of the publishing of <br />notice of said hearing in the South Bend Tribune on the 7th day of January and on the <br />CJ <br />
