521 <br />STREET DEPARTNENT: <br />The matter of bids opened at the previous meeting for supplying the Street <br />Department with crushed gravel was deferred until the next regular meeting,,at which <br />time a decision is to be made and contract awarded. <br />A letter duplicating that submitted to the Common Council, from the Amalgamated <br />Association of Street, Electric Railway and Motor Coach Employees of American, Div. <br />No.996, dated October 8, 1952, pertaining to bus service, and referring to their <br />1 previous letter of May 20, 1952, was examined and ordered filed. <br />Louis L. Warner, 120 N. 33rd Street and another property owner of that locality, <br />appeared before the Board with the complaint that this street has never been dedicated, <br />and is in such condition that it is impossible to get in or out of this area after <br />heavy snows during the winter. Lack of fire protection was also mentioned. It was <br />determined by the Board that dedication of this street cannot be effected until the <br />jowner of the required thirty feet to comprise the west half of the street is agreeable <br />to such dedication. The hazardous traffic condition due to heavy growth of brush along <br />the thirty foot unimproved roadway, now serving as the street.,was also brought to the <br />attention of the Board. After considerable discussion, the Board agreed to take the <br />matter under advisement and endeavor to make a special survey of the situation within <br />• the ensuing week, including a personal call on the property owner, whose dedication <br />of the west half of the street is required before the City can proceed with the needed <br />improvements. <br />. Contractor's Bonds, each in the sum of $1,000.00, were examined and approved <br />by the Board, as follows: <br />Cletis Asher (Mishawaka, Indiana) <br />Charles V. Berta <br />Melton 0. Brannon <br />Eugene A. Harris <br />• Niidland Engineering Co., Inc. <br />T. W. Miller <br />0 <br />Excavatorts Bond, in the sum of 5,000.00, issued under date of April 6, 1952, <br />of Percival Haines, DBA as Haines & Haines, 2526 S. P11ain Street, Elkhart, Indiana, <br />was examined and approved by the Board. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 11:30 A. IVI. <br />Attest: /� <br />Clerk <br />The Street Commissioner, being present, brought to the attention of the Board <br />• i his departmentts need for an additional Swenson Spreader. The Board approved its <br />purchase and the Commissioner was advised to proceed to obtain delivery of the needed <br />equipment as quickly as possible, <br />A letter, addressed to Mayor, John A. Scott, from the Association of Commerce, <br />and referred by the Mayor to the Board, was next given the required attention. <br />Two communications received by the Common Council, and referred by the Council <br />at their special meeting of October 15th, to the Board of Public Works, were examined <br />by the Board and ordered placed on file. <br />• <br />0 <br />
