Schumaker, representing the petitioners for sidewalk in the 1300
block
West Washington Avenue, together
with Street Commissioner, H. M. Tomlinson, again
took
up this matter with the Board. The Board called attention to $1,000.00 delinquent taxes
against one of the lots involved,
which prevents construction under Barrett Law.
It was suggested that the first step required would be the advertising of
the
property by the County Auditor, for non-payment of taxes. The Board directed
Mr.
Tomlinson to contact the Board of County Commissioners in connection with this
suggesteo
•
and report on whether or not the
Commissioners will take action in the matter.
Next appeared before the Board, Mr. Chas. R. Hintz in regard to whether or
not it
is now necessary to change his house number. Mr. Hintz was referred by the Board
to the
Cityl Engineerts office.
Mrs. Roberta Nemeth, 1101 S. Lafayette Boulevard, appeared before the Board request-
ing permission for the chaplain of an organization of which she is a member, to open
meetings of the Board, and of the Common Council, with prayer at such times as the
organization may appear before these bodies.- The Board did not consider this feasible
! for their meetings and so informed Mrs. Nemeth, referring the lady to the Common Council
• for their consideration of the suggested prayer -service.
I.
Mr, John Zrinyi next appeared before the Board with a grievance pertaining to the
three motorized dust collectors at the south end of the Studebaker plant. These dust
collectors are both noisy and dust -distributing throughout the immediate neighborhood,
as reported by Mr. Zrinyi, and are accordingly -a public nuisance. The Board directed
the Clerk to notify the Studebaker Corporation of this condition, asking that a
representative report to the Board on steps taken to alleviate this dust and noise at
their earliest convenience.
Mrs. Katherine Patain, 1221 S. Franklin. Street again appeared before the Board in
the matter of petition filed with the Board to eliminate excessive trucking on South
• I Franklin Street, particularly stressing the use of this street by heavy oil trucks.
i The Board was of the opinion that strict enforcement of traffic regulations may correct
this situation and will refer the matter to Lieutenant Clement Hazinski of the Police
!) Department for investigation and report.
STREET DEPARTMENT: H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, called the
attention of the Board to the completion of Rieth-Riley Construction Companyts paving
operation for the County on South Main Street, which leaves a gap of 750 feet of unpaved
street at the City limits North to the paving on South Main Street and the urgency of
having this short length of paving completed at this time.
j Harry Driggs, representing the Rieth-Riley Construction Company, was also present
• and the Board asked that this firm submit to the Board, at their next regular meeting,
as estimate of the cost for the paving required to complete the street at this point,
on the basis of a hot -mix asphalt, instead of the cold -mix used under the Countyts
contract.
The purchase of storage tanks from the Northern Indiana Public Service Company for
the sum of $350.00 was next considered and authorized by the Board.
The use of an electric motor at the sewer lift station at 3004 Corby Street was
next taken up and it Was agreed that inasmuch as the Sewer Department has no budgetary
appropriation for electric current, such bills to be paid from the Street Department
appropriation for electric current, until such time as the proper fund is established
• to meet this new item of expense.
The account with the City of Archiets Construction Company, in the sum of $663.10
