Kaley Street Maurice Ranschaert, 105 S. Kaley St.
Frank Lewandowski, 121 S. Kaley Street Mr. & Mrs. Rodney Matthew, 2637 Neweo e
+
Ernie J. Koleriak, 2641 Newcome Street Jos. Molnar, 113 S. Kaley Street.
These people reported on a serious sewer situation in the 100 block South Kaley
Street, and in the discussion it developed that sometime in the past, in a sewer-draggi g
operation, a sewer screw was broken off and left wedged in the sewer at this point.
This information being given the Board by Street Commissioner H. M. Tomlinson, the
Board, thereupon ordered that the Sewer Department proceed immediately to remove this
obstruction, and drag this sewer. The depth of the sewer and amount of work likely to
be involved, then being considered,.it was decided to place the job with a sewer con- •
tractor and the City Engineer was directed to give this matter immediate attention.
The truck traffic situation on Kaley Street was next taken up by the delegation and
petition was presented by one of their spokesman, bearing thirty-four signatures, and
dated August 25, 1952, asking that such traffic be stopped from using Kaley Street from
Western Avenue to Colfax Avenue. The suggestion was made that Kaley Street be made a
boulevard. The Board referred the matter to the Traffic Engineer for his study and !f
report. j
Mr. Bernhard Rothschild next appeared before the Board and presented a petition wit'
regard to the impairment of parking facilities on South Michigan Street, caused by the •
new one-way traffic plan now in effect. The Board examined the petition and referred i
to the Traffic Engineer for his study and report.
Mr. Herman Waechter, Attorney Russell C. Kuehl and a Nor. Woodward, representing the
Dependable Disposal Co. then appeared before the Board in response to the Board's
request for a consultation concerning garbage collection complaints. It was first I
brought to the attention of the Board that Mr. Herman F. Waechter is no longer president
of this company, but up to this time his successor has not been named. Mention was
made that Joseph A. Cunningham is now an official member of the company.
i
Considerable discussion of the garbage collection problem, and particularly the •
nature and various causes for complaints on failure to collect the garbage at this
season of the year ensued. Attention of the Board was also called to the failure of the
citizens, in many instances, to provide garbage cans, using instead paper cartons,
oil drums, and other makeshift containers, entirely unsuitable for the purpose. It was
also pointed outthat the company's crew personnel has been increased from thirteen to
nineteen. It was agreed, on the -part of the company, that overtime will be resorted told
in order to."catchup" on current collection. It was also agreed that the Street j
Commissioner -will be furnished with map showing routes and scheduled collecting days.
i •
