A petition signed by numerous residents of South Franklin Street, was presented to
the Board by Mrs. Katherine Palatin, 1221 South Franklin Street, complaining of exces-
sively heavy truck traffic on this street. The petition was examined by the Board, and
the Board directed that it be referred to the Traffic Engineer for his investigation and
!report.
Mr. John Zirinyi., 1103 South Lafayette Boulevard, appeared before the Board, stating
that he had taken up with the New York Central Railroad General Agent, and the railroad's
Chief of Police, the matter of Studebaker employees using the New York Central right -of -
(way for car parking purposes, from Kendall Street to Taylor Street, and asked them to put
p a barricade against such parking. The railroad officials had referred Mr. Zirinyi to
!the municipal authorities. The Board considered the matter and asked Mr. Zirinyi to take
the matter up directly with Fire Chief Richard J. Duck.
II Mrs. Roberta Nemeth, 1101 South Lafayette Boulevard, next addressed the Board in
regard to street cleaning operations on Garst and Stull Streets, and Broadway, stating
that this particular area has apparently been overlooked by the Street Department.
• Ir. H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, being present, stated that the streets named
are being given immediate attention. Mrs. Nemeth also complained to the Board of failure
of the Police Department to enforce the two-hour parking ordinance in those zones within
1that neighborhood. Chief of Police Richard J. Gillen, being present, took note of the
!registered complaints.
Mr. P. T. Garnand, 946 Beale Street, then appeared before the Board in the matter of
,a dust condition, and inquired of the Board as to the possibilities of the required
repaving of Sherman Avenue being done at an early date to correct this condition. Mr.
!Garnand was assured by City Engineer Andrysiak that definite plans for this repaving have
een made and this work will be done within a comparatively short time. Engineer Andry-
siak explained that certain conditions pertaining to the backfill, had been the cause of
• the delay in restoring this section of Sherman Avenue after the interceptor sewer opera-
tions had been completed in this area.
TREET DEPARTMENT: H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, was present, and called atten-
ion to an emergency situation in connection with the sewer on Angela Boulevard. The
atter was discussed in some detail, and in view of the urgency and the fact that
omparatively nominal costs were involved, the Board directed Mr. Tbmlinson.to secure the
ervices of the Niles Excavating Company to do this work immediately, in conjunction with,
nd at the same prices established for the jobs they are presently performing for the City
n the 400 Block North Eddy Street, and the 700 Block North Stanfield.
Mr. Tomlinson also brought to the attention of the Board the fact that his office
• !receives an excessive number of garbage complaints, because of the present Telephone
',irectory listing. It was agreed this listing of the Street Department telephone as
;;Garbage Department, is not to appear in the next issue of the Directory.
Mr. Tomlinson next presented to the Board the offer of the Northern Indiana Public
ervi,ce Company of two 28,000 gallon tanks for their removal from their property, and
xplained the value these tanks will be for Street Department storage purposes. Mr. Tom-
inson was directed by the Board to accept the tanks.
The Board next took up the matter of Improvement Resolution No. 2721, and in view
Of the numerous written remonstrances received against this improvement, by resident
.property owners, adopted the following resolution; which rescinds the improvement of
!HIRTY-FIRST STREET from the South line of Pleasant Street to the North line of North
Side Boulevard:
