Minutes of the previous meeting were read and <br />approved. Salary claims in the amount of $272385.76 were approved. Schumaker, representing petitioners who have requested the construction <br />of sidewalk on West Washington Street at Chestnut, appeared before the Board and stressed <br />the urgency that this matter be taken care of before school opens this September. Mr. <br />Schumaker stated that trucks frequently park in the path where sidewalk should be con- <br />structed, forcing the pedestrian traffic, mainly school children,-intokiazardous area. <br />He also stated that in his opinion, the rear of signboards in this location should be <br />lighted. Mr. Schumaker was advised by the Board that the matter is receiving their <br />attention and it is believed the property -owners gill install the desired sidewalk upon <br />some further urging on the part of the Board. <br />Next appeared before the Board, Tvb?. R..W. Wolfram, presenting a blue -print for the <br />Boardts examination, and requesting permission to put a three-foot canopy, extending <br />from an office building, which is one -foot in from the property line, thereby making <br />the canopy extend two -feet out from the property line. Permission was granted by the <br />Board, provided the height clearance meets with Building Department requirements. This <br />office building is located at 1315-17-19 Mishawaka Avenue. <br />The Board awarded the contract for the re -surfacing of Chapin Street from the <br />South line of Washington Avenue to the Northwesterly line of Prairie Avenue, to the <br />Rieth-Riley Construction Company for the total sum of $80,969.00. <br />A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they a rove <br />the petition of Edwards Iron Works for the vacation of the south twelve feet of pWest <br />Woodside Street adjacent to Edwards IronWorks, AND <br />The petition of C. Harry Swanson, Inc. for vacation of East- Washington Avenue from <br />the east line of Tuxedo Drive, east a distance of 130 feet t o the west line of Lots <br />numbered ninety-six (96) and ninety-seven (97) in Swanson Park Fourth Addition to <br />the City of South Bend, AND <br />The petition of I. H. Wilson and .H. F. Smith to vacate the alley from High Street <br />to Studebaker Golf Course, alley bisects block between Donald and Fox Streets, subject <br />to Utility easements and Public functions. <br />The above petitions were referred to the Engineering Department for further con- <br />sideration. <br />PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS ADOPTED <br />RESOLUITION NOS. 2677, 2716, 2717, & 2719 <br />BE IT'RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South <br />end, Indiana, that the Profiles, Drawings, Plans, General Details, Specifications and <br />stimates approved by this Board on the 12th day of May 1952, for the improvement of <br />BULLA STREET from the west line of Portage Avenue to the west line of Pdedora <br />treet, south by constructing a Class "C" Pavement AND <br />FELLOWS STREET from the south line of Ewing Avenue to the north line of Altgeld <br />treet by constructing a Class 110 Pavement AND <br />11 VASSAR AVENUE from the east line of Olive Street to the west line of Elmer <br />Street. by constructing a Class "C" Pavement AND <br />1 ALLEY BETWEEN ADAMS STREET AND COLLEGE STREET from the north line of Humboldt <br />.Street to the south line of east and west alley north of Humboldt Street by constructing <br />is Class 110 Pavement. <br />II <br />(� Be and the same are hereby adopted and ordered placed on file in the office of <br />�the_Department of Engineering of this Board.
