June 16, 1952 110:00 A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, June 16, 1952 at A. M. Granville P. Ziegler was absent. Minutes of the previous meeting were (read and approved. Ewing Avenue, appeared before the Board asking permission for the young people of his congregation to do evangelistic work on the streets of the West Side, indicating particularly the corner of Jefferson and Kenmore. The Rev. Mir. Walker also inquired regarding outdoor meetings on their own church ! property. No public address system being involved, the Board stated they had no • objections in either case and advised Rev. Walker accordingly. STREET DEPARTMENT: In the absence of H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, Casimir Kusz, Deputy Street Commissioner was present. The matter of awarding the contract for the body for the Paper Pick -Up truck was next taken up and the Board accepted the bid of the Stanley Body & Equipment Corporation,l. 912 So. Olive Street, South Bend, in the amount of $830.00. Guy Nesbit, 205 So. Kenmore Street, next appeared before the Board, accompanied by Erven Williams, R.R.#3, Pine Road, South Bend. Mr. Nesbit made a complaint regarding Beck's Lake dump, stressing in particular damage to the neighborhood -.caused by the • smoke from the burning rubbish. Mr. Nesbit introduced Erven Williams, owner of property!; on Pine Road, containing marsh land which he desires to fill in by providing a public dump. Mr. Williams stated the dump location would be in the marsh 600 feet from the j highway and that the location is at least one and one-half miles from the city limits, three-quarters of a mile north of Western Avenue. He asked that a driveway from the highway.to the location of the dump be constructed by the City. The Board informed Mr. Williams the approach from the highway to the location of the dump would be entirely!. I his responsibility. The Board further advised that the entire matter involving the possible closing of the Beck's Lake dump would be taken under advisement-, investigation made and Messrs. Nesbit and Williams informed of the Board's decision at a later date. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Civil Engineerts drawing of Dean Street paving from Fellows • Street to St. Joseph Street, was examined and approved by the Board AND Drawing of Charles Street paving from.Jennings Ave. to Klinger Street AND Drawing of St. Joseph Street paving from Jennings Ave. to Klinger Street.
