June 16, 1952 <br />110:00 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held Monday, June 16, 1952 at <br />A. M. Granville P. Ziegler was absent. Minutes of the previous meeting were <br />(read <br />and approved. Walker, 1925 <br />W. Ewing Avenue, appeared before the Board asking <br />permission for the young people <br />of his congregation to do evangelistic work <br />on the <br />streets of the West Side, indicating <br />particularly the corner of Jefferson and <br />Kenmore. <br />The Rev. Mir. Walker also inquired <br />regarding outdoor meetings on their own church <br />! property. No public address system <br />being involved, the Board stated they had <br />no <br />• <br />objections in either case and advised <br />Rev. Walker accordingly. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: In the absence of H. M. Tomlinson, Street Commissioner, <br />Casimir <br />Kusz, Deputy Street Commissioner <br />was present. <br />The matter of awarding the <br />contract for the body for the Paper Pick -Up truck <br />was <br />next taken up and the Board accepted <br />the bid of the Stanley Body & Equipment <br />Corporation,l. <br />912 So. Olive Street, South Bend, <br />in the amount of $830.00. <br />Guy Nesbit, 205 So. Kenmore <br />Street, next appeared before the Board, accompanied <br />by <br />Erven Williams, R.R.#3, Pine Road, <br />South Bend. Mr. Nesbit made a complaint <br />regarding <br />Beck's Lake dump, stressing in <br />particular damage to the neighborhood -.caused <br />by the <br />• <br />smoke from the burning rubbish. <br />Mr. Nesbit introduced Erven Williams, owner <br />of property!; <br />on Pine Road, containing marsh <br />land which he desires to fill in by providing <br />a public <br />dump. Mr. Williams stated the <br />dump location would be in the marsh 600 feet <br />from the j <br />highway and that the location is <br />at least one and one-half miles from the city <br />limits, <br />three-quarters of a mile north <br />of Western Avenue. He asked that a driveway <br />from the <br />highway.to the location of the <br />dump be constructed by the City. The Board informed <br />Mr. Williams the approach from <br />the highway to the location of the dump would be entirely!. <br />I his responsibility. The Board <br />further advised that the entire matter involving the <br />possible closing of the Beck's <br />Lake dump would be taken under advisement-, investigation <br />made and Messrs. Nesbit and Williams <br />informed of the Board's decision at a later date. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Civil <br />Engineerts drawing of Dean Street paving from Fellows <br />• <br />Street to St. Joseph Street, was examined and approved by the Board AND <br />Drawing of Charles Street paving from.Jennings Ave. to Klinger Street AND <br />Drawing of St. Joseph Street paving from Jennings Ave. to Klinger Street. <br />
