446 <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A Certificate of Insurance for the period of one month, issued <br />for„the Cityts protection in connection with Contracts 2-A and 2-B of.the interceptor <br />sewer job for the purpose of accommodating Thos. D, Nolan, Contractor, in changing his <br />fiscal year, was accepted by the Board and ordered filed. <br />A petition was received for the construction of pavement on. South Lake Street from <br />Washington Street to Jefferson, and a petition to pave the North and South Alley between <br />.IRONWOOD DRIVE and 23rd STREET from Wall Street south to Mishawaka Avenue. <br />The above petitions were referred to the City Engineer for his investigation and <br />report. <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT: The installation of STOP SIGNS were approved by the Board, as <br />follows: <br />HUMBOLDT STREET AT OLIVE STREET <br />JACOB STREET AT ROCK%TE DRIVE <br />CEDAR STREET AT TWYCKENHAM DRIVE <br />MADISON STREET AT JACOB STREET <br />BERGAN STREET AT PORTAGE AVENUE <br />The Traffic Engineer reported to the Board that the matter of the installation.of <br />traffic signals at the intersection of Sheridan Street and Western Avenue had been <br />referred to the State Highway Department and that a survey of the traffic at this point <br />will be made this week. <br />A petition requesting a 30 m.p.h. speed limit posting on Fillmore Road from Concord <br />Way to Sheridan Street was referred to the Traffic Engineer for investigation and a <br />report on his findings. <br />A complaint concerning the hazardous location of a telephone pole, having been <br />verified, the Board directed the Traffic Engineer to address a communication to Mr. <br />Fred S. Million of the Bell Telephone Company, requesting that the pole be re -set at the <br />required distance to eliminate the inconvenience and hazard it now causes. <br />Mr. Granville P. Ziegler described to the Board and Traffic Engineer, E. Miller, <br />the improved type of traffic flasher in use in Indianapolis at the entrance to streets <br />carrying one-way traffic, suggesting this type flasher would be beneficial to the <br />handling of South Bend traffic. <br />This being the hour set for the opening of bids, the Board next proceeded with this <br />matter, Yx. Andrysiak opening and reading the two bids received, as follows: <br />STANLEY BODY & EQUIPMENT CORP. <br />P.O. Twin Bull Dog Low Mount Type, Indludin5 <br />installation on your Chassis and Paint ----------------- 01200.00 <br />The bids were taken under advisement, and naming of the successful bidder deferred <br />until the next regular meeting of the Board. <br />The following Contractorts Bonds each in the amount of $1,000.00 were examined and <br />approved by the Board: <br />VERLIN V.
