Engle of the Engle Construction Company appeared before the Board and sub- <br />mitted a drawing showing a 24" overhead canopy involved-ih construction now in process. <br />The Board examined and approved the construction as shown. <br />A young man appeared before the Board, stating that he had approached 0. J. Shoemake <br />Inc. in the matter of securing from them space on their parking lot to erect a <br />temporary place of business for drive-in radio service. He had been informed by them <br />of the fact the lot is city -owned. In making inquiry of the Park Department, he had <br />been referred to the Board of Public Works. The Board pointed out that this is a part <br />of the Fire Station No-5 property and the Board would not consider either the leasing <br />or sale of this portion of the property, (on opposite side of Bowman Creek from the <br />fire station) at the present time. <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTIONS CONFIRMED <br />NOS. 2677, 2714, 2716, 2717, & 2719 <br />Confirmation of Resolution No. 2677 for the improvement of BULLA STREET from the <br />west line of Portage Avenue to the west line of Medora Street, south by constructing <br />a Class "C" Pavement AND <br />For the improvement of NAPOLEON BOULEVARD under Improvement Resolution No.2714 <br />from the east line of Harter Heights Additi6n to the west line of Notre Dame Avenue by <br />construction a Class C Pavement AND <br />For the improvement of FELLOWS STREET under Improvement Resolution No..2716 from <br />the south line of Ewing Avenue to the north line of Altgeld Street by construction a <br />Class C Pavement AND <br />For the improvement of VASSAR AVENUE under Improvement Resolution No. 2717 from <br />the east line of Olive Street to the west line of Elmer Street by constructing a <br />Class C Pavement AND <br />For the improvement of ALLEY BETWEEN ADAMS STREET AND COLLEGE STREET under <br />Improvement Resolution No. 2719 from the north line of Humboldt Street to the.south <br />line of east and west alley north of Humboldt Street by constructing a Class C Pavement. <br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, that Improvement Resolutions Nos. 2677, 2714, 2716, 2717 and 2719, 1952 duly <br />passed by this Board on May 12, 1952, for the above improvements, be and the same Are <br />hereby in all things confirmed and the improvements are hereby ordered to be made. <br />Ward H. Hurwich <br />Board of Public Works & Safety <br />The Board of Public Works and Safety hereby receives and places on file the <br />Petition of Harold G. Arveson and fourteen others for the Pavement Improvement on <br />ELWOOD AVENUE from the west line of OtBrien Street to the east line of Elmer Street <br />And <br />Petition of H. D. Dale and thirty-six others for the Pavement Improvement on <br />RANDOLPH STREET from the east line of Sampson Street to the west line of Ironwood Drive. <br />The above petitions were examined by the Board and referred to the City Engineer <br />for recommendation. The City Engineer, being present, made the recommendation that the <br />petition in each instance, be granted. The Board then directed that the firm of <br />Wilbur.H. Gartner & Associates prepare general details, drawings, specifications, and <br />preliminary improvement resolutions for the two pavement improvements to be constructed <br />and the firm was so notified June 9, 1952. <br />! STREET DEPARTMENT: A letter addressed to the Street Commissioner, was referred to the <br />Board by Mr. Tomlinson. This letter, dated June 4, 1952, from Bethel College, Mishawaka <br />Indiana, pertains to the poor condition in which Logan Street is being maintained, and <br />was referred by the Board to the City Engineer for his investigation and recommendations <br />jA complaint registered with the Board in regard to promiscuous dumping of rubbish <br />along Eclipse Place was referred to the Street Comm' sioner for the placing of "No <br />Dumping" warning signs at the required locations. <br />Considerable discussion took place relative to dog -catching and a meeting to take <br />place between the Board and the Sheriffts Office on the subject. Mr. Tomlinson called <br />attention to his need'for a new Poundmasterts Pick-up and his request met with the <br />approval of the Board, provided Mayor Scott adds his approval. The Clerk was directed <br />to proceed with the necessary advertising for bids. <br />
