<br />Beginning at the Northwest corner of said lot; thence South
<br />a l onm the West line of said lot, a distance of 40.47 feet; I
<br />thence East 43.91 to the Easterly line of said lot at a
<br />point 20.03 feet South of the Northeast corner of said lot;

<br />said lot; thence South along the lot line, a distance of 20.03
<br />feet, thence 44-06 feet to the Northeast corner of said lot;
<br />thence Northwesterly along the North lot line, a distance of
<br />47.5 feet to the place of beginning. 1i
<br />The Board accepted the Quit Claim Deed and directed the Clerk to proceed in having
<br />'. this Deed properly recorded. Recorded in Book 497, Page 103 in Recorder's Office of
<br />St. Joseph County.
<br />A Petition received by the Board for black -topping Vassar Avenue,from Olive to
<br />Elmer Street, was referred to the City Engineer for consideration and report.
<br />The February 'report of the City Sealer, Charles J. Burns, was examined by the
<br />Board, together with a copy of Mr. Burnts letter to the State Director of Weights
<br />j and Measures, concerning short weight butter at present being wholesaled throughout
<br />!I this area.

<br />Councilman Walter C. Erler was present and called to the attention of the Board j
<br />! the needs of the Common Council for new chairs and desks and presented quotations and
<br />illustrated descriptions of the type of equipment now being under consideration.
<br />Costs and type of construction were discussed. I

<br />The Board suggested that the chairs being the most urgently needed, and within
<br />the indicated budgetary funds available, it will consider such purchase when de-
<br />cision has been made by the Councilmen on the specific chair to be provided.
<br />A letter from. the Bell Telephone Company concerning re -arrangement of telephone
<br />service in the office of the Board of Health was examined by the Board. An objection
<br />to the additional annual cost was made by Virginia Guthrie, Executive Secretary of
<br />the Civic Planning Association. The matter was taken under further advisement by
<br />the Board.
<br />At 12:00 Noon the Board recessed the meeting to be reconvened at a later hour
<br />for the convenience of Irving A. Hurwich, Chairman of the Board of Safety.
<br />All members being present, the Board reconvened at 2:00 P. I;% Monday, March 10,
<br />19" 2.
<br />Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., appearing by its attorney, Nicholas P. Cholis,
<br />and its Vice -President and General P,anager, John T. Martin, made proof of the
<br />publishing of notice of said hearing in the South Bend Tribune on the 25th day of
<br />February, 1Q52 and in the Tri-County News on the 22nd day of February,, 1952, which
<br />notices are in the following words and figures, to-;arit: (Here Insertj: and also
<br />made proof of the posting of said notice in thirteen (13) public places within the
<br />limits of the City of South Bend, Indiana, which proof of posting is in the following
<br />words and figures, to -wit: (Here Insert).
<br />And said matter being now set for public hearing, the need for said contract
<br />was explained br Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., by its Vice -President and General
<br />Manager., John. I,artin, and there being no representative of the public present
<br />to protest, nor remonstrances presented, the approval of said contract was taken
<br />under -advisement by the Board for action.
<br />It was moved b,T G.'P. Ziegler, seconded by,R. S. Andrysiak that the proposed
<br />contract between Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., and the City of South Bend, Indiana "
<br />be executed and approved, and is so ordered, and thereupon said contract was signed
<br />and executed by the members of the Board of Public Works and Safety, which contract
<br />reads` as follows, to -wit: (Here Insert) .
<br />Said action to be presented to the Common Council for ratification.
<br />There being no further business of urgency, the meeting adjourned at 2:45 P. NI.
