September 24, 1951 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, September 24, <br />1951, at 9:30 a.m. All members were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read <br />and approved. V. 5.00 Western Indiana Gravel 348.27 <br />Centary Tool & Metal Co. 52.24 SEWAGE DISPOSAL: <br />Century Tool & Metal Co. 77.05 Consoer, Townsend & Associates 31228.89 <br />(-TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matter <br />pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />C: <br />A petition was received asking for the installation of a traffic signal at the inte <br />section of Mishawaka Avenue and Beyer Street. This was referred to Mr. Miller for inves <br />tigation and report. <br />BUSSES: A letter was received from Northern Indiana Transit, Inc., requesting that the <br />Board make a trip over the proposed ext4nsion route on the South Bend Avenue bus line. <br />The Board directed Mr. Miller to take the ride and make a report to the Board. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractorst Bonds were approved and ordered filed for Colpaert <br />Realty Corporation; Ernest L. Longway of Mishawaka, Indiana; and T. W. Miller. <br />A petition was received asking for the elimination of smoke and soot from the smoke <br />stacks of Wilson Brothers factory. A letter was sent to Wilson Brothers requesting them <br />to have a representative appear before the Board at their next meeting to discuss what <br />steps can be taken to eliminate this nuisance. <br />A petition was received asking for the installation of a pavement in the alley bet- <br />ween Brookfield and Johnson Streets from Vassar to Humbolt Street. This was referred <br />to the City Engineer. <br />The following street improvement plans were approved by the Board: Sample Street <br />from Lombardy Drive to Station #10/25.85; Linden Avenue from Concord Avenue to Lombardy <br />Drive; Lombardy Drive from Ford to Huron Street; Concord Avenue; Linden Avenue to Lom- <br />bardy Drive. <br />'The Board approved plans for a pavement on Addison Street from Jennings Avenue to <br />Klinger Street. <br />The Board approved sewer plans for Lombardy Drive; Barberry Lane; and Maywood Place <br />between Sample Street and Maywood Place; Birchwood from Meadow Lane to ;Sample Street; an <br />Silver Lane. <br />William G. Metros, 403 West Marion Street appeared before the Board to s ubmit a <br />plan for a store front at 112 West Colfax Avenue. A permit was issued to Gus Metromaras <br />to erect a new store front at 112 West Colfax Street, which up to a height of eight feet <br />or more will be within private property, the remainder, approximately six feet, is to <br />extend over public property not to exceed four inches. A sign with the words "The Loft" <br />is to be erected under the usual sign regulations. <br />An estimate of the cost of the bituminous concrete refurface pavement for LaSalle <br />Avenue was filed by the engineer. <br />
