311 <br />• <br />40 <br />• <br />• <br />SPECIAL MEETING <br />July 2 , 19 <br />A Special Meeting of the Board of Public Works w4s called on Tuesday, July 24, 1951, <br />at 2:00 p.m. All members were present. <br />The meeting was called for the purpose of signing contracts between the City of South <br />Bend by and through its Board of Public Works and Safety and Mancini & Ventrella for the <br />construction of the Hydraulic &LaSalle Avenues Sanitary and Storm Sewers. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 3:30 p.m. <br />VA <br />July 30, <br />1951 <br />A regular meeting <br />of the Board <br />of Public <br />Works was held Monday, July <br />the meeting were <br />30, 1951 at <br />read and ap- <br />9:30 a.m. All members <br />proved. I. <br />Casimer Super Market <br />195.00 <br />Vennet, Maurice C. <br />40.00 <br />TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, was present and matters; <br />;pertaining to his department were discussed. <br />Mr. Frederick Elbel appeared before the Board to present a request for a traffic <br />!signal at Woodlawn and Portage Avenues. Mr. Miller: discussed this request to some length;' <br />land the Board informed Mr. Elbel that a study would be made of the situation, but a traf-I <br />,fic signal would probably not be installed this year. <br />• {i Mr. Stephen Lebiedzinski appeared before the Board representing theg residents on <br />�Kaley Street and requested that sign be placed on Kale Street rohibitin trucks. The <br />ilBoard directed Mr. Miller to install said signs. <br />• <br />0 <br />Mr. Knoop, representing Mercury Motors, appeared before the Board to discuss.the <br />use of Louise Street by the truck -:trailers operated by his company. Mr. Knoop informed <br />the Board that they were using Louise Street because North Side Boulevard was blocked for <br />the installation of the Intercepting Sewer System and as soon as North Side Boulevard is <br />opened,for traffic, they will again use that as an exit from their property. <br />(ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: Contractorts Bonds were approved and ordered filed for George S. <br />jCressy; Louis R. Demeter; Harold Hansen; D. E. Hodges; Harry G. Mills; S-L-A-B Construc- <br />Ition Company, Inc.; and Al Tomaszewski & Sons. <br />Cosette Benbow appeared before the Board to request permission to install a canopy <br />!from the driveway of 216 South Lafayette Boulevard, approximately 14 feet across the side, <br />walk to the curb. This was to be a permanent canopy. Permission was denied. <br />The Board approved plans for the construction of a permanent type canopy extending <br />2 feet from the building on the northeast corner of South Michigan and Dayton Streets <br />jfor the Taylor Construction Company. <br />
