M <br />• <br />• <br />-RAILROADS: A memo was received from the City Clerk's office calling the Board's atten- <br />tion to the condition of the grade crossings at Calvert, Indiana, Ewing, Olive and Sample <br />'Streets. They, also, called attention to the traffic snarls caused by -switching opera- <br />tions: The Clerk of the Board was directed to write letters to the New York Central; <br />;Grand Trunk Western and the Pennsylvania Railroad informing them of the above complaints <br />:land directing them to remedy the situation. The railroads were also notified that arrest <br />,would be made where trains, in switching operations, block crossings for more than the <br />1alotted time, as stated in the City Ordinances. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: Melton 0. Complete plans and details are being worked out. <br />RAILROADS: Letters were received from the Grand Trunk Railway System and the Pennsyl- <br />vania Railroad indicating that they will check the conditions of their grade crossings <br />in South Bend and make such repairs as necessary. They will also handle the matter of <br />blocking street crossings with the train crews to eliminate crossings being blocked for <br />excessive periods of time. <br />0 <br />
