239 <br />March 5, 1951 .. <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was held <br />on Monday, March <br />i51 <br />1951 at 9:30 a.m. All members <br />were present. Minutes of the previous <br />meeting were <br />Iread <br />and approved. Salary claims in the <br />amount of $22,709.56 were approved <br />and ordered <br />;paid. <br />Claims of the following <br />suppliers <br />in the amount of $22,145.42 were <br />approved and <br />jordered <br />paid; <br />Artcraft Printers <br />5,00 <br />STREET & TRAFFIC: <br />jBusiness <br />Systems, Inc. <br />28.29 <br />Business Systems, Inc. <br />7.50 <br />jIndiana <br />Bell Telephone Co. <br />10.15 <br />Indiana Bell Telephone Co. <br />11.74 <br />!Indiana <br />& Michigan Electric Co. <br />315.43 <br />McCaffery Company <br />178.80 <br />jIndiana <br />& Michigan Electric Co. <br />163.80 <br />McCaffery Company <br />136.17 <br />jIndiana <br />& Michigan Electric Co. <br />1.12 <br />Schillings <br />7.5o <br />;Indiana <br />& Michigan Electric Co. <br />10,441.06 <br />PARKING METER: <br />Michigna Plate ,& Glass Co. <br />32.63 <br />Dual Parking Meter Co. <br />38.60 <br />;Shelley, <br />Edward, M.D. <br />50.00 <br />Indiana Bell Telephone Co. <br />8.89 <br />'South <br />BE d, Window Cleaning <br />53.50 <br />Vennett, Maurice <br />50.00 <br />lWest <br />Side Hardware <br />13.45 <br />SEWAGE DISPOSAL: <br />Nolan, Thomas D., Contractor, <br />10,818.09 <br />• `TRAFFIC <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: <br />Ernest Miller, <br />,Traffic Engineer, was present <br />and matters <br />�I <br />pertaining to his Department were <br />discussed. <br />A copy of a letter written to the State Highway Commission.of Indiana relative to a <br />90 day test period on one-way street traffic in South Bend was presented to the Board <br />and ordered filed. <br />`TAXI°CAB STANDS: An application for a taxi cab stand at the northeast corner of Main and <br />Washington Streets on the east side of the street at the first parking meter north of <br />(Washington Street was referred by the Board to the traffic engineer for investigation and <br />report. <br />• iRAILROADS: The Board directed that a letter be sent to Grand Trunk Western Railroad Co., <br />;requesting information on our petition for a light to be erected at their grade crossing <br />!at 35th Street in South Bend. <br />A memo having been received from the Common Council containing a complaint of the <br />conditions of the crossings at Sample and Ford Streets, and that switch engines were <br />polluting the air at the West Ford Street crossing area, the Board directed that a lette <br />be sent to Mr. G. A. Farabaugh, Attorney for the New York Central Railroad Company advis <br />ing him of these complaints. <br />;BUSSES: A memo having been received from the Common Council relative to complaints <br />• about bus service on the Corhy Street bus line, the Board directed that a letter be sent <br />;Ito the Northern Indiana Transit Inc., requesting an investigation of said complaints. <br />ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT: A Contractorts Bond was approved and ordered filed for Eston <br />Ball. <br />A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that a petition has <br />been filed with the Common Council for annexation of a tract of land, approximately 70 <br />acres fronting on McKinley Avenue immediately east of the Morris Park Country Club. <br />Action on this petition has been held up pending reports from City Department Heads on <br />estimating the effect such annexation would have on the work of several departments. <br />. A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they approve the <br />vacation of Cherry Tree Lane from the west line of Ironwood Drive to the west line of the <br />,Xorris Country Club addition. The City Engineering Department was directed to prepare <br />,a vacation resolution for same. <br />A letter was received from the City Plan Commission indicating that they approved <br />the petition for vacating sections of Marshall Street together with sections of alleys <br />in Tuxedo Park, 1st and 2nd Additions. These vacations are recommended as petitioned <br />for with the condition that easements be -provided for such utility lines as exist at the <br />present time. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2659 <br />jRESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: That it is <br />idesirable to vacate the following: <br />MARSHALL STREET from the west line of 24th Street, west a distance of 166 feet <br />AND <br />The First East-West alley south of Washington Avenue from the East line of 24th <br />Street, East a distance of 588 feet to the east line of Lots No. 25 in Tuxedo Park <br />First Addition and 42 in Tuxedo Park.Second Addition of Lots in Jefferson Heights <br />Addition <br />AND <br />� it <br />
