Um <br />0 <br />0 <br />CEMETERY DB;PF'?RTtr NT:- Mr. Stanley Leszczynski, Sexton, was present and matters pertain- <br />ing to his Department were discussed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Boards the meeting was adjourned <br />at 11:00 a.m. <br />ATTEST: <br />BOARD UBLIC g RCS ec SAFE <br />SPECIAL MEETING <br />July 6, 1950 <br />A Special Meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Thursday, July 6, 1950 at <br />9:00 a.m. All members were present. <br />This being the date set for hearing remonstrances against and for considering the <br />new contract between the City of South Bend and the Northern Indiana Transit Compapy, in <br />corporated, said hearing was held. <br />Comes now Mr. George N. Beamer, Attorney for the Northern Indiana Transit Company, <br />Incorporated, and files proof of publication of notices in the Mirror Press and the South' <br />Bend Tribuae, and the posting of notices in ten public places in the City of South Bend <br />according to State Statute, the Board accepted the filing of proof for record. <br />No tax payer having appeared before the Board to make remonstrance and no other per <br />son wishing to be heard, the Board took the matter under advisement and will make their <br />decision at a later date. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned <br />at 11:30 a.m. <br />ATTEST: <br />SPECIAL MEETING <br />July 8, 1950 <br />A Special Meeting of the Board of Public Works washeld on Saturday, July 8, 1950 at <br />110:00 a.m. All members were present. <br />I <br />1 This meeting was called for the purpose of approving a contract between the City of <br />''South Bend, Indiana, and Northern Indiana Transit, Incorporated for a change in bus fares. <br />The contract was approved subject to certain conditions contained in a letter this day <br />received from Northern Indiana Transit, Incorporated and made a part of these minutes, <br />land subject to the ratification of the Common Council. <br />The Board of Public Works and <br />Safety of the City of South Bend <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />Gentlemen: <br />At an informal discussion between members of your Board and Mr. R. R. Smith, Presi- <br />dent of Northern IndianaTrensit, Inc., arequest was made by you that Northern Indiana <br />Transit, Inc. state its position relative to future service. <br />At this meeting Mr. Smith revealed that the revenue derived from Sunday and late <br />evening operations is insufficient to pay the wages of the drivers and maintenance men, <br />to say nothing of the other costs of operation. He also stated that the number of pas- <br />sengers hauled in the summer is greatly reduced over the number hauled during the other <br />seasons of the year. <br />
